Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton

Stranger Says:

Whether or not you’re a fan of the form, 2004’s Riding Giants was a quantum leap forward for the surfing documentary, and Laird Hamilton was one of the chief reasons why. His formal innovations and laid-back screen presence made him an obvious, instant star, even to those of us who could not care less about sports of any kind. You see a human being ride waves like Hamilton did and you doff your cap. A full-length doc about Hamilton’s life was practically inevitable. And despite revisiting some narrative areas covered by Giants, Take Every Wave does not disappoint, because when you see this guy surfing the kind of waves that only appear in science fiction, hagiography seems not only appropriate but mandatory.
