This is a solid review, Grandy. I'll note that I feel no shame whatsoever in littering my Facebook status updates with LC! lines. (Maybe a little shame.) I mean, for a band that namedropped Livejournal in a song, it seem only fitting.
I don't know about songs not being immediately engaging -- "Straight in at 101" stood out to me immediately, and it continues to do so, though now mostly for the "so baby, all apologies" piece.
But otherwise I totally agree -- there's a lot more going on in the songs, they progress in parts, and I god damn love it.
Cataloging the great moments is so much fun with this album. I'll say this: I can't wait to get the physical copy so I can finally know all the lyrics I'm not able to figure out by just listening.
