NOW YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR.

"my roomate's half-sister" spambot? Your ROOMATES half-sister? Way to make a lie sound less based on truth than its current value of 0. Hell when even the fictive source of the lie is twice removed from you spambot, you know its something incredibly shady going on.

What is it, spambot?! Tell us! Is it a prostitution ring of destitute nuns on heroin? Child pornography, filmed and edited by toddlers? What is this insane level of perversion and decadence you're hiding from us with your shitty lies!?!?!

@3 You realize you’re arguing with a spambot, right? :-)

Lovely review, Anna!

DCD is one of those bands that I thought was only for the goofy goth kids that I half-heartedly mocked in high school. Once I actually listened to them (and Sigur Ros), I found I loved them. You're right, they are perfect storm music. I loved this review.

Within The Realm of a Dying Sun is my favorite of the DCD albums. My parents were certain I was turning into some sort of satanist when they saw the album title and the group name back in high school. I remember paying a premium price for 4AD imports - Cocteau Twins, the Lonely Is An Eyesore compilation....
7
I am gasping that you finally found DCD! They are beautiful and brilliant.
8
They're decent, but they can't hold a candle to their labelmates Cocteau Twins.
9
i like it when lisa sings, when brendan sings i don't like it so much.

dear Anna, i love what you do with this column. you've got really great insights and commentary on some of my favorite albums and bands. and even this crusty music-obsessed 56 year old has always more to learn.

THANK YOU, and keep up Tue good work.

You should definitely check out Aion. This album came after the Serpent's Egg and is the apotheosis of Dead Can Dance. It was all down hill after that.

Taking the fool's task of disagreeing with Fnarf I have to say - "apples and oranges sir." This may be an informal fallacy: We cannot compare these two groups in a quantitative way as they as similar of football and basketball players.

OK Fnarf, let me have it.

@Fnarf: A few nights ago in New York, I saw Liz Fraser do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDFN8TK-E…

A more rewarding single record exploration of 4AD's soft side would have been This Mortal Coil
14
I've got two words for you: Deep Forest.

14:
Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Strong work!

@14 hahahaha.

And whoever was badmouthing Brendan. For shame. Dude has pipes!

@14

Never heard of 'em

:D

I enjoyed your review and could see what you were saying in it as I can see the songs of DCD as they play out in my mind when I hear them. If you want to hear more, listen to my favorite album of their's, Toward the Within (Thank you Richard D. for turning me on to DCD)! So much emotion and feeling in their music. Your depiction of how you experienced them was, IMHO, spot on!

Please wait...
