Court Upholds Woman's Right to Call her Neighbor a "Pharisee"

so she's an old jew? or hypocritically self-righteous?

I am the "Petersen" in Dochnahl v. Petersen, and I’d like to offer a few words. Renton pays the Renton Reporter to distribute its newspapers "free" within the city limits, thus the editor’s loyalties could be suspect when it comes to reporting the news in an unbiased and fair manner. The editor called me a gadfly in one of his articles, and I took exception at the time. But since we are using the dictionary with regard to my using the words, hauty and proud Pharisee, gadfly means a person who persistently annoys or provokes others with criticism, schemes, ideas, etc. I totally own up to that description of my grass roots community activism. I lobbied against escalating property taxes and the use of “new construction” in the city’s prop tax calculation. I lobbied about unprioritized school spending when our district was $5.5 million in the red. I lobbied against taxing the non-city utilities which cost the city nothing and which are a regressive tax on citizens. I lobbied against upzoning a beautiful piece of Eden within the city limits--a rare peat bog. I lobbied for a shelter and food program for the homeless men. I lobbied for the city to follow its own zoning code, now that’s a novel idea. I lobbied for the city to follow the State Environmental Protection Act and the State’s Growth Mgmt Act. And I was a pain in the butt to the contractors, realtors, and mortgage brokers who wanted to cash in on the planned mass condemnation of the Renton Highlands homes. A secretary had accidentally put the mayor’s SOW and schedule on the city’s website and I found it before it was removed; I knew what they were planning, and with help from the Highlands Community Association pres and vice pres, Terry Persson and Howard McOmber, we motivated people to converge on city hall in numbers never before seen in Renton’s history, and the people won. It is good when the little people win, it happens so seldom. Dochnahls’ frivolous lawsuit made me think seriously about attending law school. It is extremely hard work, but I really love law school, Ave Maria School of Law is a Catholic school with great values which aren’t left at the door. I’m sure that people go to Heaven who make life hell for unrighteous bureaucrats. I’m either a gadfly or an angel—either name is fine with me—but soon I will be able to add J.D. to my name, and then life will really get interesting. Sincerely, Inez (attorney under construction)

I'm in love. Keep up the good work Inez. :)

I am the Howard McOmber Sr that Inez mentions. I think that Inez is a leader of rare courage and great intellect. It is so good to see someone act on pure motives and by the help of God stop a lot of anguish for the "Least of these" Inez is a champion for the poor and meek. She has no monetary gain from her crusade. What we need are more people like Inez. Her desires are pure and what she does blesses everyone. I am very pleased to call her and brave Terry Persson my friends. Someone has to make room for the disadvantaged and the meek and these two do untiringly. They feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give shelter to the poor, and try to lift the working people of our community God Bless Them! Howard

Inez, make sure you take good notes during the class where they teach you about paragraph breaks.

As for the city, "It's hard to transform a neighborhood unless you can transform all of it" is just completely wrong, or wrong-headed; yes, you can wipe out a neighborhood in a flash and replace it with all new, but you'll never create an actual neighborhood that way. Gradualism is the only approach that works.
6
Good job, Inez! Keep it up!
7
Does anyone else think of "Dead Man" with Johnny Depp whenever the word "pharisee" is mentioned? I expect Gary Farmer to show up with a knife and settle this whole business.
8
The good, the bad, and the lawyers. I'm glad there are Inez'es with the guns. Hope she can inspire us all to stand up alongside her. She stands for many good values. Bruceandruby

WHY DO THEY CALL IT RENTON? CUASE NOBODYS BUYING.

June 2009 Update from Inez Petersen: I am officially a second year law student. What a year it has been; it was the hardest thing I've ever attempted.

What made me think seriously about law school: (1) Bernie Dochnahl's roast at the Renton city council meeting on 9/25/06 and (2) her later frivilous law suit. Thank you, Bernie Dochnahl.

I love law school so much. In years gone by, I thought being an attorney was boring, but I didn't understand Justice and the Law back then. It is a game I can hardly wait to play in the real world in defense of the poor who would not otherwise have access to legal aid.

If you are thinking of attending law school, I recommend the Ave Maria School of Law, Naples, FL. It is a wonderful environment where faith and reason are integrated into the study of law.

Hello, this is Inez checking in from Florida. Ironically, Jerrilynn Hadley, the attorney who started the Dochnahl v. Petersen lawsuit, has moved to Florida too. What if we meet at Wal*Mart? I guess I could tell her how much I love law school; and if it weren't for Dochnahl v. Petersen, I would never have pushed forward with plans to become an attorney.

Jerrilynn Hadley is married to Russell Wilson who ran against Judge Terry Jurado for the position of Renton Muni Court judge in 2005. Dochnahl was his campaign manager. Dochnahl's were also their landlord--the Hadley-Green law office rented office space from the Dochnahl's.

Wilson wasn't entirely truthful in his campaign materials, and I submitted a bar complaint. The King County Bar Association distributed a press release about his less than accurate campaign materials. He lost the election, and Judge Jurado won.

So you can see how intertwined the relationships are among the city hall political in crowd. I think they may have "black listed" me. I should write a book.

Jerrilynn Hadley was a City of Renton planning commissioner the year I protested the city's illegal public hearings regarding its 2006 Comprehensive Plan Amendments. My petition was accepted by the Puget Sound Growth Mgmt Hearings Board.

Well, back to studying Criminal Procedure. This state has too many lizards; I haven't seen an aligator yet.

I haven't seen any hauty and proud Pharisees here in Florida yet; maybe they are here but are suppressing their true personalities. My roommate accidentally started a grease fire in our condo (does anyone purposefully start a grease file?). It was shocking how fast the flames rose and how much smoke there was so quickly. I had purchased a $17 fire extinguisher from Wal*Mart and put it under the kitchen sink a few days before. It saved the day and put out the fire before it did too much damage. What actually did the damage was the water from the sprinkler system. Water, water, everywhere; we looked like drowned rats in front of all the students who had to evacuate from the East and West Halls. Luckily my roommate was not standing over the pan when it exploded into flames. Our only losses were my cell phone, her pan, and her blender. And my important papers to file were lying on the bedroom floor ready to be filed--they drowned in the deluge, and some were not recoverable after drying out. But no one was hurt, that's the important thing. We have been in temporary housing since the fire and hope to be back in our condo within a week or two. I will keep an eye out for those hauty and proud Pharisees, and you might think about going to Wal*Mart.

Inez Petersen:

You should definitely keep up the good fight! As a resident of Fairwood Greens and a parent of two young children, I fear what a Renton Housing Authority development just off of Petrovitsky RD would do to my neighborhood, our local Fairwood businesses and our property values. You go, girl!

Fairwood residents need to protect themselves by Incorporation vote to become a city on Nov. 3rd. Otherwise, we face the decline in the neighborhood that has been experienced over the years by the Highlands neighborhood and businesses. I am worried about an increase in crime. I cannot let that happen! I became a member of Fairwood Municipal Initiative this past Feb. and am now ready to write letters to the editor, walk precincts and do other volunteer work in favor of VoteFairwood. I testified before the Boundary Review Board in May in favor of Incorporation.

This was somewhat a tough decision for me, as my aunt is Terri Briere, Renton City Council member. I decided that it was in OUR little family's best interest for me to fight off potential annexation as we would then no longer have any real voice or influence. Renton wants to relocate some of its lower income residents into my neighborhood--no freakin' way!

I was wondering if you might be willing to write another letter to the editor to Renton Reporter and perhaps the Fairwood Flyer, about how you were treated by some in the Renton business community when you brought up RHA crime/decline in their properties/lack of police response and how they tried to shut you up. Help us to turn out the pro-Incorporation vote by reminding voters of how Renton government treated you. I would rather continue to be at the mercy of King County than the City of Renton!

Erin Aboudara, Fairwood Greens resident :-)
14
I would be willing to write another letter to the Renton Reporter, but I doubt that Dean Radford would print it. He published his mission statement awhile ago; and it wasn't to provide news to the residents of Renton. No, it was to assist Renton businesses in making more money. Can you count on a newspaper which gets a huge chunk of revenue from a municipality in order to provide papers "free" to residents? And the resulting NO in the minds of readers would be doubly so when the newspaper has a mission such as the one I just reiterated. I do hope that the Fairwood residents can get a good voting turnout, but you can just guess that a city hall incrowder has provided money to the pro-Renton group to fund their pro-Renton campaign.

For a long time, Renton has been nibbling at the edges of what would have the city of Fairwood. At first they just negotiated with the Boundary Review Board in secret and had the BRB declare a given area part of Renton without a vote. Such abuse of the public process soon made it illegal, and now residents must vote to be annext to Renton. But if you look at the minutes of the Renton city council, you will see small annexation after small annexiation as they gobble up neighborhoods adjoining Renton city limits. You know the old saying: Divide and conquer.

As an update on Dorknahl v. Petersen, I mean Dochnahl v. Petersen, they are appealing Judge Middaugh's ruling that the lawsuit constituted harassment and that the Dorknahl attorney should be fined $75,000 for filing a frivolous law suit.

I wish that I could be proud of owning property in Renton, but I can't. The city-owned pavement adjoining my property has not been maintained since the day in 1978 when it was originally laid. Mayor Kathy Koelker-Wheeler ignored my requests for maintenance, and then wouldn't ya know it, I broke my leg in a fall on the crumbling asphalt pavement. I got a blood clot as a result of the broken leg, and this has had a huge impact on my daily life. I must wear compression stockings and be watchful of my circulation all day every day.

If the Renton Chamber/Rotary crowd were to give me an award, it would probably be most hated grass roots community activist. Not only was I critical of Renton City hall, I was very critical of the overpaid Delores Gibbons and how she ran the Renton School District.

Oh, well, I will return with J.D. after my name and that will be a great help to the grass roots citizens of Renton. One of the first things I want to do is have an initiative to eliminate Renton's utilities tax.

Back to my law school studies . . .

While Mr. and Mrs. Douchbag Dochnahl (try an sue me) might be outrageous pricks, and completely insufferably stuffy, the term Pharisee seems an odd choice. While maybe it has a attained new meaning, it still is the name of an ancient Jewish sect. Inez Peterson, keep up the good work, but maybe we should keep the insults to a non-anti-religion level. Even if the religion in question was finished before the middle ages.
16
Yes, we decided at Vote Fairwood to only deal with the Fairwood Flyer newspaper and Fairwood Community News (web news site) this time around and to just ignore the Renton Reporter altogether, for just the very reasons you have stated, Ms. Petersen. We get to vote one last time on Incorporation and then if it does go down to defeat again Nov. 3rd, we will be incrementally sucked into Renton by small neighborhood by neighborhood annexations and then the crime will increase more than ever because all Renton Police really do is pull people over to give them speeding tickets and such. No real policing actually goes on in Renton. The last time I heard about a drug/burglary ring in Renton being busted, it was by the King County Sheriff's Office detectives, representing the city of Sammamish and their citizens who had been robbed by Renton residents. This was just earlier this summer.
J. Paul Blake of "Go Vote No" does not even live in Fairwood (he lives in unincorporated KC, outside of Renton's PAA) and yet is still involved in that campaign to get Renton to annex Fairwood. It is all the Renton and other municipal public employees unions that are trying to force us into Renton, along with people like the Dochnahl's--we fight the same people you have been up against.
17
I wanted to update you on the status of Dochnahl v. Petersen, which I now refer to as Dorknahl v. Petersen. The appeal will be decided on Jan 5th without oral argument.

I am half way through law school now. I see where Bernie Dochnahl's attorney, Robert Soren Green, was not up on the rules of evidence. For example, he extracted a letter from a page off my website and left all the explanation behind. This violates Rule of Evidence 106, Remainder of or Related Writings or Recorded Statements. But he was desparate.
18
To the person who called Bernie Dochnahl a douchbag.

The term pharisee is in the dictionary referring to hypocrit. It can be used without any religious connotation whatsoever, which was my intent. My soul is still safe from eternal damnation, except the damnation of the city hall political incrowders which may turn out to be eternal.

If any of you remember Alva Long, well, he was a friend of mine and an attorney in Auburn. I plan to do his memory justice when I have J.D. after my name.
19
Inez- So glad to see Mr. Green was sanctioned. I am a paralegal student and we read the unpublished case as part of our discussion on CR 11. The Dochnahls, Mr. Green, and Ms. Hadley should all feel great shame after tying up the courts with such foolishness. Congratulations.

Oh, you should have asked for fees on appeal.
20
Dear people, Dochnahls lost again. The appeals court rendered its verdict yesterday, affirming the findings of King County Superior Court. Dochnahl v Petersen ended up with the Dochnahl side receiving $75,000 in Civil Rule 11 sanctions for filing a frivolous lawsuit. Unfortunately, their attorney will have to pay, not them. Have you ever heard of the saying: Rich people think their **it doesn't stink.

I just completed my half-way mark in law school, and I probably would not be here studying if it weren't for the Dorknahl's lawsuit. That was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. Ave Maria School of Law is a great place with great people. I love it here. And I loved the weather too before the cold snap hit Florida.

Sincerely,
Inez Petersen
21
I haven't heard whether the sanctions of $75,000 plus interest have been paid as yet in the Dochnahl v. Petersen case. But I will get a great deal of satisfaction out of every dollar for what these people tried to do to me. Of course, without them, I wouldn't be in law school, so thanks to the Dochnahls for being so hauty and proud. I wonder who their lawyer is these days . . .
22
I just heard today that Dochnahl v. Petersen, which I renamed Dorknahl v. Petersen, is not dead yet. The plaintiffs didn't believe the King County Superior Court when it said FRIVOLOUS LAWSUIT. They didn't believe the Appeals Court when it said FRIVOLOUS LAWSUIT, and now they are trying for the Wash State Supreme Court. UNBELIEVABLE! I will keep you posted on further developments.

Surf google videos for "Bernie Dochnahl" and listen to her assassinate my character on the record of the Renton City Council, date 9/25/06. On that night, I was talking to the Renton City Council about not putting another tax on us--sounds like a good topic for today too.

It is too bad I didn't have the cash that Dochnahls have or I would have sued her and the people she got to sign her letter of 9/25/06. Councilmember King Parker is one of them. I think that Bernie Dochnahl was guilty of libel, slander and defamation, not me.

I love law school. Favorite classes: U.S. Constitution, Trial Advocacy, Wills and Trusts, and Legal Writing.
23
Update: I am home for the summer; I'm officially a third year law student. I see that Dochnahl v. Petersen is now visible to anyone checking Westlaw or LexisNexis. I think it can be found by checking the court records of King County and possibly will be visible via the Washington State courts website when that appeal is addressed. The more these people attempt to sidestep paying the $75,000 in Civil Rule 11 sanctions for filing a frivolous law suit, the more their name is cemented into the public record.

On July 7, 2010, the State Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal of Dennis Dochnahl and Bernadene Dochnahl (aka Bernie Dochnahl) v. Inez Somerville Petersen. These people were wrong, just plain wrong--FLAT OUT WRONG! Justice prevailed, but this case should never have been filed in the first place.

This means it is pay-up time for their frivolous law suit. $75,000 in CR11 sanctions plus interest.

Unfortunately, these sanctions are not against the lawyer who started the lawsuit, Jerrilynn Hadley. She sold her business to the unfortunate Robert Soren Green who thought he had a "cash cow" on his hands with the case. Instead he ended up with the CR11 sanctions. Do his kids' piggy banks have $75,000 in them?
25
September 2010 marks the month that attorney Robert Soren Green finally paid his $75,000 Civil Rule 11 sanctions for frivilously pursuing me in Dochnahl v. Petersen. I actually have a copy of the checks which I am going to frame.

As I sit here in the computer lab doing homework for my Secured Transactions class, I recall with gratefulness the attorney who helped me vanquish the unrighteous: Peter Buck of The Buck Law Group. A wonderful role model and my hero! I also owe a debt of gratitude to Michele Earl-Hubbard, one of the best Constitutional attorneys in the country; she helped on my case too.

Life is good and I am so fortunate to be in law school--especially one with such a great Christian environment, Ave Maria School of Law in Naples, FL. The weather is fabulous today, but I am opting to stay inside to study. Without Dochnahl v. Petersen, I would not have acted upon my casual statements about attending law school. I thought I was too old and in too poor of health to attend law school. Well, the Lord has blessed me, and I'm sure I will be able to help someone in the future just as Peter Buck and Michele Earl-Hubbard helped me.
26
I am studying for final exams which take place next week. I can hardly believe that graduation from law school is so close--May 2011. Oh, I hear from neighbors in Kennydale who socialize with Dochnahls that Dochnahls talked about their law suit against me quite a bit initially, but ol' Denny Dochnahl is silent now. I remember how he scowled at me across the table while his attorney took my deposition--like a scowl from him was going to unnerve me! I just looked across the table at them and thought what a pitiful pair they were. I warned Denny Dochnahl and his wife Bernie Dochnahl when I left the office that day that if they didn't withdraw their frivolous law suit against me that CR sanctions would be the end result. I just never had any idea that the Court would take such a dim view of these people and their attorney that the level of CR11 sanctions would be $75,000. Jerrilynn Hadley originally filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Dochnahls; it is too bad she wasn't able to share in the sanctions. Merry Christmas, everyone!
27
I have classes tomorrow and a short final and then I have a 4-hour final next week and I'm finished with law school. Graduation is May 15th. I'm sure Bernie and Denny Dochnahl don't have the date marked on their calendars, but they should! After all, I owe my presence here in law school to their frivolous law suit. Rich people who thump on poor people do so by virtue of their money and power. I am so glad that Dochnahls' lawsuit turned out to be a big embarrassment to them. The person who got the worst of it, however, was their attorney who received a $75,000 fine from the court over his frivolous law suit. The attorney made some money representing the Dochnahls but I imagine it wasn't anything near $75,000! Oh, wait . . . he was renting his office from the Dochnahls, so maybe all he got was some free rent. Law school has been hard but rewarding. I can hardly wait to be an attorney.
28
I graduated from law school on May 15, 2011, and am now studying for the state bar exam. As I have said many times, had Bernie Dochnahl and Dennis Dochnahl not filed a frivolous lawsuit against me, I would still be living a quiet life in Enumclaw, WA. At the time I was served with their summons and complaint, I had moved from Renton and had withdrawn from the local political scene in that city after Mayor Kathy Koelker thankfully lost her bid for re-election. Dochanhls' unrighteous pursuit of me pushed me into law school, and now I am very excited to see what the future holds for me and for those I will represent one day.
29
The Dochnahl v. Petersen lawsuit has certainly flavored my thinking. I could never see myself as a member of the political elite--I'm just too grass roots and my sense of justice would shrivel in such an environment. I continue to study for the bar, but family issues have taken alot of my time since I arrived home from law school. My mom is now living in a wonderful assisted living facility not far from my condo, so hopefully there will be no more falls for her. I am excited to see what the future holds for me--a future made possible by the mean spirited posse of Renton elitists who attacked me at the 9/25/06 city council meeting. Randy Corman made some of his best comments that night. The videos are on Youtube.
30
Can you believe that Bernie Dochnahl was a runner up for citizen of the year in Renton this year? I saw the article in the Renton Reporter, the mouthpiece of Renton city hall.
31
Hey, everyone, thanks to Bernie and Dennie Dochnahl and their frivolous law suit, I went to law school AND NOW I'VE PASSED THE WASHINGTON STATE BAR EXAM ! ! !
32
I am loving being an attorney. The law is just the most interesting thing. I created the Underdog Law Report to the Renton City Council to publicize when Mayor Denis Law and his staff weren't exactly abiding by Renton's own laws. I hope the Council will bring pressure to bear on Denis Law's "shadow government." The Council performs the legislative function--the mayor and his staff are supposed to implement it, not do things "their way." underdoglaw.info is the website. Cute cartoon in the lower left corner.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
