I wrote to Tom (not email) shortly after his flip-flop. I was respectful in tone, but really let him have it. Not surprisingly, I've heard nary a word from him or his office. He's an unwashed dick beholden to money. Yawn.

Anna, re your "Tom...is now running the GOP." Actually, he's not running the GOP caucus, and maybe that's the problem. His deal with the Republicans is, he would join their caucus only if they elect him Majority Leader. But that doesn't mean he really leads the GOP majority -- there are too many right-wing whack-jobs in that caucus who will never accept leadership from a flip-flopping Democrat.

No, Tom is just a tool the Republicans are using to put forth their world-view. Tom couldn't support the reproductive rights legislation he said he would because the GOP members who really control that caucus wouldn't let him.

Majority Leader is supposed to be a leadership post, but not here. Tom is a follower, not a leader.

When he gets his payoff from whatever industry bought him, I would like to think it wouldn't be enough to make up for the number of people who openly revile him wherever he goes, but I know he is such a shit that he won't care.

I fully expect all the obedient turncoats serving their elite masters these days to get their pay off, and that makes me hate them even more.

Sadly, after his inevitable diselection he will be rewarded for betraying his constituents with a nice cushy job at some right-wing institution or other, because the bad guys with big money know that people respond to incentives, and the promise of payoff will induce many other greedy shitbags who can spend a year pretending to be progressive to dupe voters, betray them, and then take those cushy payoffs, cycle after cycle.

This article seems like beating a dead horse. We know he's a turncoat. The question is, who is going to oppose him in the primary and the general election? Where do we donate? How can we help recruit strong candidates?

Color me a skeptic, @14. Rs don't forget backstabbers like Tom -- they'll do everything they can to discard him once he's no longer useful to them. They're not Ds who want to make everybody happy and feel good.

I keep asking myself, what is his end game? He's not going to win his next election in his current job if he runs. He's not going to be able to run for anything as a D after this. He's not going to be able to run for anything as an R after this, because they don't trust him after he's burned them before. So he's not electable to higher office, nor his current office, nor likely even lower office. Is this whole thing really about his strong belief that government workers should have shit pay and benefits?

In the end, what's the point of what he's doing, besides giving a big double bird fuck you to the Ds? What's the motivation here? What am I not seeing?

Problem is, every Republican in his district will be voting for him in the primary. there is every chance in the world that he will win the primary and either run opposed or run against a Republican who would either a0 lose or b) get elected & you'll have the same result. I wouldn't count on him losing the primary, just sayin.

Don't overlook the horrible "top two" primary election we have, now held during the summer doldrums on the first Tuesday in August. If Tom comes in first or second, he gets a slot on the November ballot, regardless of what party "preference" he chooses to put by his name.

He'd love to see a half dozen candidates riling against him, to divide the vote and optimize his chances of being first or second after the primary. Remember, there is no Democratic primary any more, where Democratic voters can turn out to defeat him.

Rodney started out his political life as a Republican. I remember his solicitations to the real estate community, where he had briefly worked as an agent. They prompted me to personally respond, as the slime was visible from day one. When that early attempt failed, he must have figured that a new party affiliation would offer him greater success and it appears he managed to fool some folks into believing the ruse... Here we are, years later and the Real Rodney Tom has pulled another skunk out of the hat. No surprise to those of us who figured him out long ago. Unfortunately the voting public were the last to learn.

If squashing the DREAM Act is how Sen. Tom shows his support for a bill, then it's obvious his "leadership" exemplifies the same lie. Enjoy your 15 minutes of power, Sen. Tom.
