How to Become a Medical Marijuana Patient

God I wish my state had a medical marijuana law. I am in 'intractable pain' - or what my doctor calls chronic pain. Right now I'm taking morphine (and bunch of other drugs) for it. Straight morphine. I fought for years to avoid such a powerful drug, but the pain was just too great. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat....

I have smoked marijuana and I know that it works better than the morphine. It relaxes the terrible muscle spasms that I get - and the tension that the pain causes. Oh, I'll probably need a pain killer in addition to the marijuana, but MJ would allow me to take LESS of the drugs that are destroying my liver. But I'm 50 freaking years old and and can't get a hold of it! If my state had a medical marijuanna law, then I would have access to something that really, really helps.

You guys don't know just how good you have it.

Why just Crohn's and not Ulcerative Colitis too? I seriously don't get it.
4
you can get one for ulcerative colitis. i just got mine for ibs.

intractable pain covers a lot of conditions not specifically written into the law. My intractable pain is migraines that have not responded to any of the pharma drugs and DDD.

Swamp the shitty system (tipping points and critical masses, anybody?);that would bottleneck the Man's ability to suppress cannabis use.Be relentless 'till those egomaniacs capitulate!

Schweighsr you don't mention where you live? My condition sounds very similar to your own. I also ingest huge amounts of Morphine sulfate/Oxycodone/Klonopine/ and yes sometimes somminex OTC. I recieved my Wash State Authorization a few weeks ago. My "pain Specialist refused to up the dosage for my Morphy and Oxy. Even though my breakthrough pain is unbearable between doeses he's afraid I'm at the upper does limit on the opiates. The only chose left without putting a pistol to my head was try to obtain my Wash State MMJ Authorization. I can't tell you how much better I feel and how it changed my life. Those who don't believe this works need to walk a mile in my moccasins (and yours too my freind) I honestly can't blame my pain specialist I'm at the opiate dosage now where respritory failure could become a real concern if the opiates are increased. That doesn't help me sleep at nite thoguh does it? That said MMJ has been a blessing. I still use the Morhy/Oxy/Klonapin/ but I'm no longer in pain...I simply just don't think about it after I medicate using my German made Aromed vaporizer. I've found Blackberry Kush(Sativa) great for intense pain and keeps me up and going~Bread and Butter Indica on the other hand mellows me out enough to sleep and relax and actually forget about the pain. I don't know where you live however I wish you all the luck in the world...I've literally felt your pain.

Yay glaucoma diagnosis!

my wife was diagnosed with schizophrenia, just FYI originally she was on no less than 6 powerful tranquilizers, and it was terrible, but through much trial and error, she got off of the tranks, and now smokes MMJ for symptoms.. it actually relieves her symtoms..or to be clear, its a total miracle, IT actually makes the voices go away!! this is not a joke. of course, no one will prescribe it to her for schizo affective disorder, so she has to get it illegally....marijuana has litterally given her, her life back...if you are suffering from schizophrenia, try one or two puffs, if it helps, tell your doctor...this could save thousands of lives.

This is really pretty much the only instance in which I'm okay with naturopaths being able to give prescriptions.

Does anyone know where the law says that the authorization has to be on tamper-proof paper? I've had yearly authorizations from my doctor for a few years, but it's always been on regular paper. I thought I've read the entire law, but I don't recall seeing anything about tamper-proof paper.

Calicorock -

I'm in Pennsylvania, all the way across the country, so a Washington State Authorization isn't going to help me at all. New Jersey just passed a medical marijuanna bill, although it hasn't be inacted yet [still trying to figure out distribution]. I have friends there, so maybe when their law gets working I can get my hands on some. Hell, if I could just get some seeds I could grow my own and throw myself on the mercy of the court if I get arrested. I've had two doctors tell me the would prescribe for me if they could.

I'm glad you can get the drug you need and that you feel better.

It's funny, but I have been for medical MJ ever since my aunt died 30 years ago - lung cancer had metastastized into her stomach and she literally couldn't eat unless she smoked first. And even then her portions were ridiculously small - she ate two half-inch slices of a hot dog, a tablespoon of potato salad and 3 potato chips at a picnic and ended up throwing it all up because her stomach was too full. The cancer didn't have time to kill her, she starved to death first - in America! I'm still outraged. But I never thought I'd end up needing medical marijuana myself.

It's important to point out that a medical authorization does NOT mean your employer can't fire you for drug use if they have a policy in place. It's been tried all the way to the Supreme Court. They aren't firing you for your condition, just for being on drugs. They have the option of doing it for Percocet or Vicodin as well.

Good info. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.

does anyone have a list of cannabis friendly doctors on the Northend?

(5) "Tamper-resistant paper" means paper that meets one or more of the following industry-recognized features:

(a) One or more features designed to prevent copying of the paper;

(b) One or more features designed to prevent the erasure or modification of information on the paper; or

(c) One or more features designed to prevent the use of counterfeit valid documentation.

I got my card from a real medical clinic, make sure that the place you get your authorization from actually verifies for you. If not - your authorization is as good as nothing. I found a lot of these "clinics" really aren't clinics, and are just fronts with rented doctors that whip out authorizations by the hour.

I've only found two good places, www.medical-marijuana-washington.com and www.thc-foundation.org - both will verify, my friend went through the first clinic, I went through THC. We both had no complaints.

Thank you Dominic Holden!

...for always writing the the most updated truths about the heartless turn of events involving the DOJ's "amended memo" concerning our Medical Marijuana rights in WA state.

I personally want to recommend GREEN BUDDHA dispensary(ad in The Stranger) for ALL legal medical marijuana patients.

The correct strain of the medical marijuana in pill form, and vaped has CHANGED my LIFE! I can now control any attack within 5-15 minutes. I can leave the house.
I have never had a bad reaction to any medicine from Green Buddha.
They are the Original and the BEST.

WHY PAY MORE FOR UNTESTED PRODUCTS brought in from other states? Why does a medical marijuana pill cost $4 at other dispensaries? It is $1 at Green Buddha. Support quality medicine and be healthier. Do not live in pain or fear anymore.

Please try Green Buddha. You will be so glad to be in their caring hands.

I suffer from IBS, IBD, panic attacks and depression. For 16 years I endured such pain and shame. No Hospital, Doctor, Herbalist could help me control these debilitating attacks. I endured horrific tests and was given harsh prescription meds which nearly killed me...including BELLA DONNA, a well-known "Borgia" poison, prescribed for me by a Dr. at Providence/Swedish. Harborview and Swedish hospitals both administered Fentanyl to which I am allergic. Who knew? It's now a street drug!

I recommend GREEN BUDDHA, my dispensary of choice, for careful and compassionate counseling for each individual patient. They have been the healing those of us in terrible pain for a very long time.

I'll be 64 this year. I am no kid trying to get high. Can't we just all "smoke along"?

Don't forget the incredible amount of tax money that would fund ALL the state's programs now being cut.

Please keep medical marijuana in the spotlight at The Stranger.

Love, Peace, Harmony

I am glad to be a medical cannabis-friendly doctor. It's sad to find out how many of my patients approached their primary physician to be told "oh, I don't think that WORKS so I won't write a recommendation for you". What? They'd rather you take dangerous painkillers, or ineffective medicines? -- regards -- Selena Eon, ND
