It was fine. Now it is gone.... what will take its place?

Wheres the beets? Waiter does not know his borscht.

Went to check out the new 1200 and was very disappointed. Bad service, even bad host service. The waiter said the soup of the day was a "terrific beet borscht." What arrived was hamburger stew, no beets with an oniony beef broth. The waiter put it down on the table and with out even a hint of apology declared the soup was the way "peasants made borscht" and turned on his heel and left before I could even say "Where's the beets?." I am sure he thought he had pulled a fast one on some rubes. Things went down hill from then on. The waiter's smugness was amusing.

great food, little pricey

went there on Friday night and returned for drinks on Saturday. Not quite the same feel as the old 1200. But food was good. Still pricey. Glad the old chef is gone - he sucked pretty bad IMO. One of the old owners was always snooty too. new owner and manager? seem nicer so far. I'll try again in a few weeks to see if they worked out the kinks.

I remember the first time I went here way back when, and this place seemed neat. The menu was usually at least semi-interesting, the staff friendly enough, but the setting was fantastic. It was a place to take a girl that you really wanted to fuck. Now, it sucks. The staff seem like they just transfered from Aurora Denny's. The lobster tasted like it had been cooked, refrigerated, microwaved, and then served.

Gayer than Adrian Ryan....

The food is gay, the drinks are gay and the staff is VERY gay... The ideal location for a fag to break up with his hag.... And it always seems like the minute you leave that ChiChi LaRue and a porno camera crew will pop out of the woodwork and begin filming "Naked Lunch, Part Deux" at the table you had just vacated, with the hunky, but vacant waiter and a visiting Francois Sagat....

Closed until the end of the month

Let's see what new owner Barry from the Deluxe has in store for us then ...

a nice alternative on the hill

Get there a little early and get a seat in the bar. You can order from the full menu, but the bar menu will likely do just fine. Try the steak. It's cooked very well, and a smaller, but filling portion. Above average bartenders and as noted above, xtra gay.

What has happened?!!! Re-hire, Revamp-Remodel. Please! We miss the old food.

The hotness of the staff makes the food taste better.

Or, at least judging from the other reviews, I must've been duped by my clitoris once again. Used to hate being dragged there because of the high prices and not thrilling food, but then it seemed they got a new chef and uh...kaBOOM! Haven't been to 1200 in a few months, but it was great last time, and the time before. The strange waitress with the blocky teeth and short bangs is always there when I go in. Her aloof and vague Frenchiness makes anything taste good.

Mediocre Food and Slow Service

We had to wait almost an hour for our burgers and steak frites and the place was not even that busy. The food was mediocre. The server was friendly and propmt with drinks, but the kitchen seems to have serious problems. We will not return.

new chef is outstanding

The food was wonderful....the service was great....much better than it used to be! I heard there is a new chef, and I think they hit a homerun with him (or her)!

Went with a friend for a quiet dinner. The staff were super friendly, but the food was not all that exciting and not worth the $200 check we got at the end of the night. The wine was good, but a tad overpriced as well. It is in my hood, but I don't think I will go again. Seemed like the sort of place a teen would take a prom date to be "fancy"

This place has gone downhill.

Love the staff. The dining room food used to be great. Now it is just mediocre and over-priced. If you go, have the burgers in the bar. Don't bother with the steak tartar. Relaxed ambience.

Used to be good. Not it is AWFUL

Sorry but this place took a turn for the seriously bad not long ago. Last time I was there it was truly terrible. I ordered fries and they came with bits of raw bacon in them... I've repressed the rest for my own good. I know it was once good and the it was a great neighborhood spot. But I'd really stay away. I hope they return to their earlier abilities but I'm not going until someone tell me they have.

good food and xtra gay

The food here is really quite good. Thoughtful, flavorful dishes served by an excellent staff. Lots of well-healed queers enjoying good drinks. The place has a very bad late 80's look to it. But maybe that even ads to the charm.
