Thank heavens mumblecore royalty the Duplass brothers have already shaken off their recent overearnest celebrity-laden misfire, Jeff, Who Lives at Home. Their newest comedy, The Do-Deca-Pentathlon, stars excellent actors you’ve never seen before in a nuanced, low-key meditation on sibling rivalry. Two brothers on the cusp of their 40s are still stinging from the collapse of their teenage competition—a 25-event battle that would determine who was the best brother of all time. When they’re reunited, they reprise the Do-Deca-Pentathlon, much to the dismay of their family. There are some good, easy laughs—paunchy, balding guys running at breakneck speed will always be hilarious—and the characters are likable and nuanced. (PAUL CONSTANT)
