I agree with most of these reviews that the food here is mediocre and the service is so slow (even when they aren't busy). The worst part is the food though. It is over-priced and just bland.
It's been almost a year since the first and last time I've been to the 14 Carrot. I took my friend there for his birthday since it was where he requested we go. I ordered a black coffee which was served to me in a cup with red lipstick on the edge. I got my breakfast and started eating. After a few bites of my eggs, I picked up my toast and took a bite. It tasted weird immediately so I actually spit it out only to realize there were green bits of mold on the crust. Needless to say, my appetite was immediately gone and I've never returned. If you're into dirty dishes and rotten food, by all means, visit the 14 Carrot.

I love the cottage cheese pancakes, which nobody else I'm aware of serves in Seattle. It is the saving grace of this place, which is otherwise pretty underwhelming. The espresso cart in front is cool for being one of the last remaining shreds of Seattle's former espresso cart culture, but I do wish the coffee were better... This place is running on its past. I really wish they would put a lot of effort into improving, oh, I don't know... the freaking food and service...
The last few times I went to 14 Carrot for lunch I was ill. The club sandwich had really hard edges on the meat, so much so that I couldn't chew through it.. too much mayo.. and the fries were cold. The espresso was burnt and they re-made it for me.. only to serve it even more burnt. The staff was SO rude.. and if not for us acting a tad offended (and her boss having a talk with her across the way in plain view) we would have left without paying. One star for this cafe would be lying. I give 14 Carrot a negative 3 stars.

I've been to this place several times since I work a couple blocks from it. I've had breakfast and lunch so I think I've given it a fair try, but it just isn't very good. The staff is always really nice, but my food is usually super greasy and barely warm, not a good combo. The place also seems kind of dirty, and last time I was there it totally smelled like those urinal cakes that go in the toilets. There isn't much to choose from in the way of breakfast in Eastlake, so that's probably why this place is popular, but I don't really go there anymore.
I couldn't justify eating here every day during the week because it seems like everything comes with 3 eggs, but as an occasional weekend fry-up you can't go wrong. The breakfasts are HUGE and delicious.

14 carrots above the floating houses on Lake Union
If ever you want to take in the floating houses on Lake Union before or after breakfast check out 14 carrots. Excellent service with tons of choices and great atmosphere. Within walking distance to several lakefront hotels.

From the moment you enter, 14 carrot is bustling. the servers/hosts are so friendly you feel like a regular your first time visiting. the kitchen is open and offers a preview of the delights to come. The hodgepodge decor and tiny tables may seem a little awkward to some, but the breakfast favorites done well feel like home to me.

Obviously not caviar and champagne, but they have done all my breakfasts right. Waitstaff is friendly and the place has a funky charm to it. Definite returning customer.
