It also looks like Maine will have a voter initiave on the November ballot. NOM is going to have to shell out a lot of money to fight civil rights in so many states this fall. With any luck, California will also have a ballot initiative repealing Prop 8. Lets see how thin we can spread the hate dollars.

I hope the HateBux are spread thin, and that the increased attention so many campaigns will raise across the country doesn't counterbalance such an effect with greater contributions from the oppressive buffoons out there.

Maryland will deal with a referendum too. Let's hope NOM goes bankrupt but with millions from "Faith based organizations" flowing into their bank account, I suspect they will be able to fight very successfully on many fronts; Washington, Maine, Maryland, and Wisconsin. Regardless, legal precedent has been set here on the Pacific with the 9th Circuit Court. It will be hard to defeat equality in the courts.

There are so many reasons to love Martin O'Malley, one of which is that he's a decent musician. This just adds love onto love.

Sometimes, I miss my Bethesda (my old hometown) so much it hurts. Hooray for Maryland!

Did the Slog cover the fact that another federal judge ruled this morning that DOMA couldn't prevent a same-sex couple from receiving federal benefits? I expected to see it but haven't yet.

Eventually gay marriage will come to backwater states like Pennsylvania and Oklahoma at which point no reasonably fashionable gay would ever want to get married.

Go Maryland!

Though unstoppable might be a bridge too far. You've never been to Louisiana, where in our relatively progressive capital city, the metro council refused to endorse a resolution (a resolution mind you - not a law) that basically said, "Gee, businesses, it would be swell if you would not discriminate based on sexual orientation. We're not going to do anythign to stop you, but it would be just grand if you didn't." Conservative religious leaders bullied them into declining the resolution.

A fellow Louisiana person here. I'm sick of the bigotry here. My husband and I are counting down the days until I can take early retirement and we can move to a marriage equality state. Fortunately the list keeps growing.

Yay!!! Maryland.

Sorry you have to deal with a shitty referendum too.

Still... progress.

#11 and #12 At some point the Hetero folk will have to make a show of it and CLEARLY deny service to another Hetero person and state clearly that you did not serve them based on their "Sexual Life style" or what have you. The point needs to hit home for them to see it. Like a 2x4 across the head of a mule. Many don't know what it is to be discriminated against. Of course you two are sweet and charming and would never hit a mule, but I do suggest you discriminate against a Hetero for being Hetero. Just to sort of kick up the dust.

@14 I was thinking that's a good idea but what business is sustainable on that model? Not being snarky, just wondering if there is one
