I am SO looking forward to the opening of this line! I live in the Central District a few blocks from one of the stops. It will be so nice being able to take this to Broadway.

Had things been different, today you'd been able to go from West Seattle to Ballard in just a few minutes.

And we'd also have a wonderful huge park in South Lake Union too. But instead we get to look forward to the ground breaking of a street car still a year away.

Tell me how that's progress?

Yay, more streets that will be terrible for biking, including Broadway, Madison, and Jackson (I think.)

Every 15 minutes is still too infrequent for decent public transportation.

I'm waiting to squee until we build the latest idea, the gondola from the waterfront up to Capitol Hill.

I just don't see the point of this particular route when I can ride the 60 from Broadway to Jackson and then walk or have my pick of bus options down Jackson.

I have mixed feelings about street cars.

One positive argument is that they get Seattle away from the cold, dead hand of suburban dominated Metro and Sound Transit and allow us to actually control our own choices about where our transit goes and who it serves with in the city.

Another thing to keep in mind is that rail systems almost never make complete sense when they are just starting out. I don't think anyone would say that the SLUT line makes sense by itself. But as a pilot project to test things out for a much bigger street car system it might make more sense.

I do agree with the comment above the every 15 minutes isn't often enough for a streetcar line.

Wait! I only read the bold parts. Is this thing going to cost me $26 million dollars EACH TIME?

Every 15 minutes beats the shit out of walking. Once the goddamn rails are in place, you can add more streetcars.

Something tells me this will get about as much use as the SLUT. I live on First Hill and dont really see myself using it.

Given the hill climbing success of streetcars, doesn't all that costly tunnel building for LINK seem like a gigantic waste.

I'm sorry our Federal tax dollars were squandered by a big city like that.

I'm looking forward to it. Now we just need to connect the lines to have an actual streetcar network again.

Oh, and there is a simple fix for the bike problem- high density foam in the tracks, which would only be compressed by something of streetcar weight.

I don't understand what one has to do with the other. You're not going to be able to take a streetcar from the airport or downtown to Redmond.

I think I'll go ride one of our trackless electric streetcars that traverse most of the city already, to celebrate this monumental milestone.

Jesus, cyclists: just ride across the damn tracks, not along them. They're only 3 inches wide apiece. if you can't be bothered to avoid the tracks (or lack the skill to do so) you don't deserve the privilege of riding on the streets.
