Level the entire waterfront from the sculpture park to the west seattle bridge. Fuck all the trinket shops and tourist traps. Re-wild the entire strip; the sculpture will be the network of suspended boardwalks, tunnels and viewing platforms. Anything else will be a joke.

Yes, please leave the columns as ruins. We can decoupage the shit outta them with tiles, mirrors and shells!

Make the columns look like the pilings! All crusty and shit. It always seemed like a sad/spooky inadvertent memorial that you can still see the old Luna Park pilings off of Alki.

The waterfront should be wodged as full of shops and eateries and workshops and even offices (off the ground floor) as code will allow; hell, rewrite the code to allow double or triple that. At least 1/3 of the spaces should be reserved for recent immigrants at subsidized rates. Artists should be allowed only sparingly; music is all right I suppose. Cheesy crap for the lower classes, including tourist tat should be given preference over anything sophisticated. Tattoo parlors yes, "sound pieces" no; rides yes, "video installations" no; taco stands yes, architectural flourishes no.

Designate a public performance place for music on the waterfront (pier or otherwise). That was pretty cool when it was a regular waterfront party. At other times, leave it open for people to walk on.
