Wait -- wasn't increasing turnover one of the selling points for converting much of our neighborhood's free parking to metered parking?

Whatever. They'll probably push the paid hours to Midnight.

Downtown Manhattan parking costs less than in Seattle (http://flic.kr/p/bBgTeK), and is free starting at 6PM, while in Seattle, every block has at least one "3 minute load" and "30 Minute load/unload" zones sitting empty, unused and unusable until after 8PM (http://flic.kr/p/bBgTdM).

Give me a reliable, safe, frequent transportation alternative and I won't have to drive.

So, way to go, McGinn. By stripping away the Commons from our community, you've shown that we really are *the shit* your cohorts want to think we are - sooooooo green and metropolitan.

Congrats, I guess. You won.

PS Here's an website that shows the abundance of free-after-6PM parking in Manhattan: http://goo.gl/QdJzE

@1 - That's what I thought too. It was supposed to encourage more turnover and make parking more available. Now, instead of being able to pay for 2hrs at 4pm to park until the wee hours of the morning, you pay for 3hrs at 5pm to park until the wee hours.
