I forget who it was, but someone recently left a comment on a person-hit-by-bus post that accused Metro drivers of driving recklessly through that intersection. I've worked two blocks away from 3rd & Pine for six years, and I think that's patently untrue. What is true, however, is that pedestrians tend to behave like morons at that intersection at a rate I just haven't seen elsewhere in the city. What would possess a person to run out against the lights while multi-ton buses (following the lights and the speed limit) are coming from both sides? A few weeks ago I even saw a multi-person fistfight taking place in the middle of Pine Street by the bus tunnel entrances. What the hell?

WTF is it with people and jaywalking? Just wait 30 seconds. Jesus.

Are you high? Making a dead toenail metaphor for a jaywalking accident just doesn't seem like something a sober person would do.

Was she on her phone at the time? Last week I had to pull some dim multi-tasker out of the path of the Whispering Deuce at 4th & Seneca.

I can't help but feel like the real moral of this story is "Don't step in front of buses."

I see this all the time, both pedestrians walking against the crosswalk light, or cyclists running red lights (red for 4 seconds or more), or making illegal left turns onto 4th.

Take a camera, stand on the corner at around 5pm and you'll record idiots all over the place.

She must have been from out of town. I've been so conditioned about j-walking from living here that friends from other cities as me what the fuck I'm doing standing on the corner at a deserted intersection waiting for the light to change green.

The ridiculous thing is this is not a "toenail"...this is self-proclaimed Financial District of Seattle -- offering some of the priciest and most exclusive of office space and "urban density". It's rich with "transit" and "culture" like the nearby Pike Place and Benaroya Hall. And you know what? It's also home to open air drug deals, shoot outs and daylight knifings!

It's called "running to catch the crack dealer". Happens in that area all the time.

I wait at the 3rd and Pine bus stop every morning to go to work. It is the center of all human grimness.

You keep a dead fungus infested toenail hanging on your foot because it gives it character? Hot.

Its clearly time to put big stickers on the front of buses: "WARNING! Stepping in front of a moving bus can cause death or serious injury!"

@12: "this is self-proclaimed Financial District of Seattle"

No, it isn't, unless you're talking about the numerous undocumented financial transactions that go on between 2nd and 3rd.

I must be high. How the hell did rotting toenails come even remotely into this?

Why did you bold the officers making an arrest witnessing the incident? Do you think the officers would have acted fast enough to get the lady to not jay walk?

Reminder: If the Don't Walk is already flashing when you step into the street, that's jaywalking too. It doesn't mean Hurry Up.

I don't think it's fair to blame the entire intersection for the inability of a few people to pay attention to their surroundings.

I have lived in several areas of the country, and of all of them, Seattle seems to have the highest percentage of people who seem to be completely unafraid of big heavy objects barreling towards them, as if they will always magically stop because that is what is *supposed* to happen. Of course, that is the best case scenario, right? So, way too many times, *splat*.

I saw a guy run past a cop to punch a bus at 3rd and pine. He cracked the window and the cop said "Really?!" as he cuffed him.

They are playing opera music where the old contract AT&T store used to be next to MoneyTree maybe that will help scare away some of the drug dealers and gang bangers!
