Lovely.

Wasn't it Kurosawa that had hundreds of live trees, leaf by leaf, hand painted so there would be more vivid fall colors for one of his films?

@1 - I've never heard that, but if true, it was probably for his film Dreams.

I voted A, but kind of meant A & D, then I read @1 and decided A was probably the right choice after all.

I used to have a rubber stamp that read "THIS IS NOT ART". Sometimes I wish I could stamp the computer screen.

@tkc-- Antonioni painted a row of trees white for 'Red Desert.' He was going for a strange, disorienting effect. But after spending a week painting the trees, the weather changed from overcast to bright sunlight, ruining the image he wanted. So it didn't actually wind up in the film. Still, that movie is filled with strange and beautiful images like that.

Art is about sharing ideas, making statements and producing feelings. If you react so strongly than obviously it is art. I wish people would stop saying "painting" the trees as there is NO PAINT involved. The artist uses a pigment made from grinding a stone and there are no binding agents. He puts the stain in his mouth to prove it's harmless. What color do you turn if you stop breathing?
