Good luck to Senator Hewitt if he's paying for his own insurance.

Aw, shit, good luck to him either way, but he should probably be paying for his own insurance.

Re: Do Not Trespass: North Bend homeowner fatally shoots intruder.
ZOMG you mean guns actually do have a practical use once and awhile? They are actually used by people to defend themselves? I can't believe it, a link on the slog which demonstrates why some people choose to keep them in the home. To use against crazed maniacs like that one.

I would personally prefer that say a few hundred people get a few million each instead of just one, two or three getting all of the bread basket. I also understand that the states/lottery system would be out of money very fast as every winner would be wanting their full share at once.

I have a sort of love/hate thing for Eliot Spitzer. He's so very smart and so very stupid at the same time. And, at least to me, handsome as the dickens. But what will the irascible Olbermann do now? A radio show, I presume.

Heard that Occupy Seattle is organizing a bus trip to the heartland to protest Mega-Millions winners.

Think of the 99.999999% who didn't win!

Check out that link to Cracked that Cienna put up yesterday. There's a section that's pretty much about Spitzer.

Re: 8

Not Spitzer by name; rather, the idea of men being ruled by their dicks to the degree that they risk termination, indecent exposure charges, etc., because they can't wait a couple of hours to get home from work before they take care of business, if you know what I mean.

@8 I read it and wanted to weep. It's why we humans will never adapt to the one thing that can save us from extinction- ourselves. Expelled from the garden by our own weakness. Weakness instilled in the garden, itself. We, like everything else, are inherently creators and destroyers. Even of ourselves.

@5: I'm not sure they'd be "out of money." The ticket sales for this jackpot were about $1.5 billion. Not a bad ROI for a 3 month period.

@Kim, thanks. Though honestly, I forgot all about it until Dan's post reminded me.

No mention of white supremacists hacking Trayvon Martin's email and posting altered content to "prove" he deserved to be killed by Zimmerman? I think that is news worthy.…

Well, we can go Star Trekie (Original Series) and presume that our intellect can dig us out of acting purely instinctually.

Paging Mr. Goldstein, is there no way to spin the story of defending yourself against a crazed intruder in a pro-gun controlling light?

Also, what @4 said.
