Scott McCaughey's Searchin USA column in The Rocket turned me on to countless bands in the 80's and 90's.

Props to the writers the author chose to recognize, but I'm a little confused by the chronology and/or criteria, since I thought Kaplan stopped writing decades ago. Via Facebook, Gerard Cosloy suggests a few more active candidates: "Don Howland, Tesco Vee, Thurston Moore, Steve Albini and the Rev. Norb Ugly... On the still-writing tip, where's John Robb or Eric Davidson?"

@2 Yeah, if you're going to include Kaplan, why not Chrissie Hynde or Patti Smith or Lenny Kaye or David Thomas? Some key British writer/musicians were also left out: David Toop, Kevin Martin, David Keenan, Keith Moliné, etc. Plus, no DJ /rupture (Jace Clayton)?!
