I think this is smart because, nowadays, you win presidential elections by appealing to one side or the other, not both. This includes the die-hard base and those more moderate. The country's split 50-50, remember, not 30-70, or something like that. The strategy is to get as much of that 50 as possible. Going to Bob Jones U and, I guess now, Liberty U, has become SOP of Republican Presidential candidates.
And anyone who thinks Mitt Romney would govern as a moderate is out of his/her mind. The days of Republican (not Democrat) presidential moderates are over, in part because the Republican base has been so radicalized. And nothing Mitt Romney has said during the campaign, publicly or in private, has suggested that he would rule as a miderate. If he gets elected, it will be bad.
Liberty University! Where you have the liberty to express your views so long as they're exactly the same as those of the people running the place. Moar liek Conformity University, amirite?
A few interesting tidbits I see on Liberty University's Wikipedia page:
1) The mascot/team names/nicknames for students is the Flames...
2) They are planning on starting a medical school next year...hmm, wonder if those students will get any info about abortion?
Also went to their website to check out their code of conduct (known as "the Liberty Way"), but apparently you have to
have a login to do so.
