I loved Java (though not Jakarta). The owner of the homestay we arranged in one small city told us we were the first Americans to come through the entire city for years. I get it - it's a mostly muslim island, and there has been terrorism. But Americans are missing out.

All I can say is that I wish I had a uniform like that when I was in the military.

Love that camouflage material. I'm guessing the country must be covered in rose bushes from border to border.

I wish we could've danced like that in the high school jrotc drill team. Instead we had to do lame (after several competitions) military moves.

Sampeyan Dalem Ingkang Sinuwun Kanjeng Sultan Hamengkubuwono Senopati Ing Alogo Ngabdurrakhman Sayidin Panotogomo Kholifatullah Ingkang Kaping Songo seemed like a pretty goodhearted and enlightened ruler who respected his people. And yes, that was his full official title, according to Wikipedia.

I liked it, though I imagine what Tony Perkins would say if our soldiers did that (and dressed like that) in a parade.

A damn sight better than the Macarena.
