Whatever it's doing, it's trying very, very hard to do it.

I love it. I love the Bean in Chicago, the most fun I've had in an art.

Respectfully disagree. Anish Kapoor pieces are always worthy of further investigations, and something like this cannot be dismissed without actually viewing it in person.
At which time, I would guess, based on everything of his I have seen in person, it will reward you in unexpected ways.

I'm interested to see it in context. It looks like a carnival pop-up in a fairground parking lot in that photo. It must be better than that.

@4 The bean is wonderful, but benefits tremendously from context (indeed, a reciprocal relationship).

Ahh, you gotta love the casual racism of Slog commentors.
Kapoor is actually a Persian Jew, born in Mumbai, and while his father was indeed Punjabi, if your mother is a Jew, you are a Jew.
At least, thats what the neo-nazis, the world around, will say, as they attack you.

Of course, he is now a British Citizen, CBE. And his collaborator on this piece, the amazing engineer Cecil Balmond, is from Sri Lanka. Not a Punjabi in any way shape or form.

I love it, and I am a Finnish American- and my guess is that you could find examples of pretty much any ethnic group who would both love and hate it.

It looks like someone tried to realize Vladmiir Tatlin's "Monument to the Third International" in reality, but then something went wrong and it started to overflow.

Yes, preheat oven to 450, insert Tatlin and bake for one hour and thirty minutes.
Delicious!
