That performance at the Sorrento was amazing, even if I was standing in the corner next to the crazy man with the dog, and even if Paul Williams bolted out the door as soon as the show was over and didn't sign my poster. Whatever. Amazing.

I spontaneously went to the Friday screening, and was so glad I did! Like the reviewer, I was a kid in the 70s, and though I didn't know Williams' name, I saw his picture in the ad for this movie, and showed it to my brother, and we both said, "Oh, it's THAT guy!" He *was* everywhere in the 70s (I equate him with The Muppet Show), but without the context of identifying him with his music, I just remembered him as one of those ubiquitous people that was famous for being famous. The Gong Show, The Love Boat, Hollywood Squares... he was just everywhere, then he wasn't. I didn't go to the Sorrento after, but wish I did. Instead I spent the weekend listening to the 'A Star is Born' soundtrack and the Carpenters all weekend. :)
