The strange relational energy between The River and London Calling, and the period they were released in, always inspires me. Great rock seemed to be spilling out by real people all over the place. (I stayed a big fan of both artist/band through Nebraska and Sandinista! too.) I remember Springsteen releasing "Hungry Heart" with a tear it up non-LP B-side ("Held Up Without A Gun") just like a UK punk act . And The Clash's double seemed like a swanky version of The Band LPs I was borrowing from the library or something. Love your ruminations on this: From explaining why you never owned any Boss records, and especially the savoring of your father's love for good 70s rock. (What a handsome fella!) Thanks, Kathy.
Thanks, Chris! I appreciate Nebraska and Sandinista! more now than I did then (at the time, neither was what I wanted nor expected). Didn't occur to me until later, but Father's Day is on Sunday. Either you forget because your father is gone or you remember and get bummed out for the same reason.
