Goldy, you're presenting this position taken by Republican Governors as some sort of principled stand, where I believe it's simply a callous disregard for the dire consequences of a tactical maneuverer they expect will garner them votes in the future.
A stand against Obama now gains them votes. Running against the Federal take over in 2014 gains them votes. Stopping _those_ people from taking our money... Protecting the best health care system in the world...

While I'm no fan of the Affordable Care Act because I see it as a sell out to the insurance industry, I think it has become abundantly clear that death panels do indeed exist. They can be found in ALEC and in the offices of republican governors. This is the new normal for American politics - if republican's can't win elections because their priorities and policies are so noxious to the common good, the response is to either A) disenfranchise non-republican voters; B) kill them off for lack of access to health care or C) bankrupt them with medical bills and lock em up in debtor prisons. Of course the corporate media will pretend this isn't happening. Hey, did you hear that Kristen Stewart cheated on Rob Pattison?

Personally I see no problem with Republican Governors refusing to set up State insurance exchanges and expanding Medicare/Medicaid. It just means come 2014 the Feds will do it for them. Taking us one step closer to the real health care solution. A national single payer system combined with private insurance buy ups for those who can afford it. Works perfectly well in Germany to name one country.

Raise tuition for four a four year degree to at least $80 grand and throw out affordable health care. That will keep America razor sharp.

According to a several commentators (both pro and con), undoing much of the government's Commerce Clause powers is exactly what was at stake.
Whether McKenna was savvy enough to think so before it became convenient damage control is admittedly another question.
