seriously? when did roller derby get so freaking expensive? i miss the days of $5 entry, $3 tall boys and magnuson park. i know this is another league entirely, but the concept is the same.

$15-20 per bout is the going rate these days for roller derby bouts. I do think it is a fair price though. Also keep in mind the skaters and refs are all volunteers and most of the entry cost is to pay for the venue. Small price to pay, I think, for entertainment!

@3 it's more than just volunteer, they pay dues on top of all the work they each have to chip in to keep the league going. They're also unique in their business structure in that they a non-profit.
So for those who hate tax-payer funded pro-sports these women did it all themselves. The banked track took years of fund-raising and now they're on their 2nd season. I'm going, I love sports and I love watching people succed at something that they put all their hearts, blood, sweat and tears into.
