I don't understand... why? Why is this video for this song? I'm so glad I haven't seen a video in 15 years now... Thanks a lot, Paul.

Happy Native American Heritage Month...? My people appreciate the subtle nod, Ms. Stefani

They should watch Reel Injun before making another video. Or just be, um, not racist.

I love No Doubt, but it's a terrible choice for a video... somehow Lindy forgot to include all the hipsters dressing up like Native Americans in her "complete" guide to hipster racism...

Hopefully, you guys will be equally as outraged at Johnny Depp as Tonto.

Maybe offensive, but not really racist. Not unless you also think its racist for a white person to wear FUBU and baggy jeans. I thought racism was when one assumes that another person has a certain disposition, or will act in a certain way, based on their race. I don't see that happening here. I would be racist if I came across a Native American who did not drink and was surprised by my discovery. It is not racist if I wore a bandanna with a feather in it. I don't think a race of people can claim ownership of a specific style of clothing, even if they created it. We don't cry racism when we see a Native American in khakis and a button shirt.

I had a twitter rant earlier today about the disgusting appropriation of native americans i witnessed this halloween....then mere hours later this stereotyped & hyper-sexualization of their women? ughhh "playing indian" has a long history in the US and in no way is it better than minstral shows or dressing up in blackface. she's pretending to be a race that she's not, and is drawing upon stereotypes to do so.-- collapsing distinct cultures & asserting power over them. this just furthers the stereotype that native ppl are one monolithic culture, when in fact there are 500+ distinct tribes with their own cultures. It also places native people in the historic past, as something that cannot exist in modern society.....yay way to go GWEN ::whitedevil::

side note: warbonnets are reserved for **men** in native gwen sporting one is just dumb. I can't read it as an act of feminism or subverting the patriarchal society, it's an act of utter disrespect for the origins of the practice. but hey, at least she's "looking hot" while dismissing and minimizing the continued subordination and oppression of Natives in the US by donning her little headdress--contributing to the culture of power that continues the cycle today.

@6 The Comanche Nation adopted Depp and he was at the Comanche Nation fair. It was an effort to get ahead of the issue since the film is already made, has millions behind it, and the only way to defuse a situation like this is to just ride it out.

This video, however, is nothing like that.

Wow. That's some racist bullshit right there, Gwen & Co.

Do I think you're looking hot? No, I think you're looking mighty bigoted.

What happened to Gwen? Tragic Kingdom, she was my 12-16 year old idol. Ever since that album all she and Shirley Manson care about is lipstick and what people think about their appearances. I can't find the original article, but this sums it up:…

The other, more subtle bit of racism here: latinos.

The setting is clearly a mission style town, one where you would expect a large population of latinos, but the only prominent darker skinned "townspeople" are the two men in the jail who arrested the bass player and then sat around laughing and getting drunk. The vast majority of the rest of the townspeople are pale white people. Additionally, the jail is clearly marked "policia," which plays into the associations with the latino community and law enforcement.

The video is full of white people pretending to be the non-white people who lived in the American southwest.

warbonnets are reserved for **men** in native communities.

You really have no business calling people out on political correctness when you're a misogynist.

There's no copyright on culture.

@20 it troubles me that the only response you have to my statements is that I am a female misogynist.

Hey dum-dum, Gender roles != misogyny, and attempting to frame complex societal relationships - ones that aren't zero-sum games - like you did demonstrates a pretty fundamental lack of understanding of what's at play here.

It's pretty telling that you'd reference copyright in this discussion, because our copyright laws are absolute shit in actually protecting intellectual property of anyone who doesn't have the ability to work within that system.

I'd be willing to let this go if it were just a terrible song with no depth, no rhythm and a catchy beat but that video is racist as fuck. Was she going for some kind of Pocahontas theme shit? What a mega fail. Would have been better if she was fighting her way through garbage and screaming at the bassist's ass.

No doubt have pulled the video from youtube and apologised. (And I can now breathe a sigh of relief, and go back to digging Gwen Steffani). I gotta say, I do like this song, and its harmonies. And yes, they are old but still hot.…

"As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history. Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are.
- No Doubt"
