There is no such thing as a pity vote. And whining about how nobody likes you and you never get laid (err... elected) only makes you even less attractive.
"My platform and our candidates suck so bad we've lost every election for two decades" is nothing to brag about. Or wallow in. Its time to re-examine your platform and your slate, and ask yourself why people avoid you at the ballot box.

How does a republican win when half the state is filled with crazy teabaggers and you still have to win a large chunk of King County? Well...you find yourself losing a lot.

If you did things in off years like most states, and Locke had begun in 98 and retired in 06, Gregoire likely would have won without the need for a recount. That was the first big blue election nationally, after all. (If it had happened in 02, well, who can say then?)

I think it's rather interesting that despite the Democrats near lock on all statewide offices, the Republicans have maintained a lock on the office of Secretary of State since 1964 -- far longer than the Democrats have controlled the governorship.

Got to admit that I never saw Patty Murray's rise to power coming, but what a job she's done. Could she be Harry Reid's heir apparent when he retires at the end of his current term?

I was shocked when I learned that there's only a handful of female senators. I'm so used to having two of them, I had no idea the rest of the country was so patriarchal.

@ 5/6, I remember The Stranger endorsing Republican Sam Reed for Sec'y of State last time I could vote for that race. He proved to be on the side of the law when he denied Rossi's challenges to the recount in 2004. I was worried he'd end the recount before it was done, a la Florida 2000, but he seemed to understand that his duty was to Washington, not the Washington GOP.
