Yes, it was very tragic for that cop and his family to lose a daughter due to a "momentary lapse in judgement." You know what will be even more tragic? The next time someone gets killed because this idiot can't be trusted with a firearm. Good show, jury.

Colleges wouldn't have to pay anything to fire their football coaches if they didn't have football coaches in the first place.

Unfortunate use of cliche from the attorney in the Marysville article: "They didn't do us any favors," he said. "They were aggressive, they stuck to their guns and they did everything that could be done."

Super massive black hole can only mean a super massive collapsed star, right? But what if two massive black holes coalesced? Is that possible?

There's a joke in there, scientists and comedians suspect, but we may never know due to the gravitational pull of the black hole on jokes.

How the fuck is a "momentary lapse in judgement" not negligence??? We need a Rule Five added to the Four Basic Rules of guns: Momentary lapses in judgement are never acceptable.

@4: Black holes can (and presumably do) collide, leading to larger and larger black holes. Also, the supermassive black holes commonly found at the centers of galaxies are a different breed from the stellar mass ones thought to be formed by collapsing stars. It's a bit up in the air how they ended up so big, but the prevailing thought is that they started out as merely large black holes (formed by the collapse of large stars) and then ate very well indeed.

Isn't it precious when a child tries to do adult things, like critique art? When he grows up, I'm sure he'll be a little embarrassed at the xenophobia on display with his affectation of a French accent. But for now, he's having fun.

Wanna bet Paris didn't park those cars that closely herself? That pink Bentley must be like a magnet for cops looking to make a DUI.

Oh, and apparently Pat Robertson is now admitting that believing the Earth is 6,000 years old is ridiculous and needs to stop. (Link from HuffPo) Apparently, Pat Robertson now believes in "telling it the way it was," at least in this one specific topic.

Too many gems from religious kooks in the last couple days showing up on Reddit this morning. I can't help but share.

Bill O'Reilly now asserts Christianity is not a religion, but a philosophy. Conversely, Catholicism and Methodist (mentioned specifically) are religions. Do not attempt to apply logic to those statements. I suspect another meme image based on David Silverman's reactions may emerge from this, his second appearance on the show.

While the UK strives for a more accountable press, our own FCC tries to change the rules to do the exact opposite:
"Murdoch has set his sights on the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune — the major papers in the nation's second- and third-largest cities (where, incidentally, he already owns several TV stations).

And get this: The FCC is trying to change the rules so Murdoch can get exactly what he wants. Worse, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is hoping the agency can pass these changes without you noticing.

Murdoch's media grab would be illegal under the current rules. But Chairman Genachowski is pushing the other commissioners for changes that would translate into a giveaway for Rupert and other media barons."

The really big news ? ? ?

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/20/fashio…

Naomi Wolf will be at the Seattle Town Hall this coming Tuesday.

sgt_doom isn't suggesting you see her 'cause she's an attractive lady --- sgt_doom isn't suggesting you see her 'cause her book is on his favorite subject, no, see her 'cause she's a highly intelligent and thoughtful social critic on the disastrous times we live in.

The article on disgust and sex is interesting. It helps me understand why it is much more difficult to enjoy sex when the house is messy. The sight of little hairs in the bathroom sink is gross enough to "shut that whole thing down" to quote Akin.
