What would be great is to do a reality show where several established bands are given the same set-up as the Beatles had to record Revolver: completely analog, 4-track, no synthesizers, etc, and see what they come up with.

Speaking of rock, Hitless Wonder (2012) is a facinating chronicle of a never-famous (nationally) band.

Over the years we've noticed that New York bands-even the ones that don't pull karaoke singers from the crowd-are disproportionately shticky and ironic, often dressing in tennis outfits or matching Speedos or like Victorian strippers. My theory is that irony insulates these bands against failure. They want to be famous, but just in case it never happens, they can always take off their costumes, fall back on their Wesleyan diplomas, and say, we were just kidding.

The Beatles was all the rage in the 60’s. There was hardly anyone who wasn’t touched by or greatly in love with their songs. It wouldn’t be wrong to call them as trend-settlers. In fact even know people sing their songs with great passion.
