Well played, Goldy. I can't wait for the trolls to accuse you of being a partisan hack, when to me this shows nothing but good ol' fashioned journalism. Nice coup.

Why is it wrong to fund education first? Both the State Constitution and the State Supreme Court are saying we should be funding education first. Also, why is it wrong for Republicans to support education? Why would Democrats want to not fund education? Seems like our state could use more Republicans AND more Democrats actually following through and doing what the constitution says, which is to fund education first.
Maybe the Washington State Republicans are hoping the Democrats here will do what Obama has just done for the GOP in DC and suggest specific cuts for them so they don't have to leave finger prints.

@6/8: What good is a well-funded school if the road you would use to get there is unusable? You're either being disingenuous or unbelievably stupid (in the parlance of our times).
@8, the Republican plan is not to fund education first and then make judicious cuts elsewhere. Their plan is to appear supportive of education and force the Democrats to propose the cuts. The plan is to leave the Democrats holding the blame with the constituencies who suffer the cuts while the Republicans take credit for supporting education and balancing the budget.

Look at Fund Education First in conjunction with the recent charter school vote. The GOP is going to move that education money into private hands, count on it. That's what the charter school push is all about - another way for the wealthy & connected to gorge at the public trough.
OK, so the first step is to separate the education funding from the rest, and then cut the rest. Then the next step is to show how much the education budget has increased compared to the rest of the budget and argue for its cuts.
