Guns don't kill bills...

I am pretty sure this happens at least once a year these days.

The guy is just doing what he knows will win him votes in his upcoming re-election bid. He knows where his bread is buttered, and he knows he is not making an actual argument. It is a publicity stunt, and an unoriginal one at that.

On another note, the American Conservatives Union has given Burlison a 100% conservative rating. I would wager at least 85% of that has to do with fetuses and firearms.

That'll show that bill.

Nice production values, I might add. Did they get the local high school's AV club to film this?

Yes, but HB 1588 is still alive, and has passed committee, largely thanks to brave REPUBLICAN Senator Mike Hope of Covington, who has been supporting this bill despite a withering assault of NRA phone calls against. This is the hugely important background checks on all sales (i.e., "gun show loophole") stopper.

C'mon that was a pretty cool symbolic protest.

If Occupy did equivalent, you'd be heaping praise on its artistry...

@5:

The obvious difference being of course that Occupy as a movement is based on a philosophy of non-violent protest, so, um, you know, that means, it most likely would never even have occurred to anyone in the movement to express opposition to something by using a tool of violence to shoot it full of holes.

But, hey, thanks for playing "False Equivalency: The Game Show"; we'll be sending you the home-version...

Off topic: ex Senator Domenici has admitted to fathering (no not fathering, producing) a child out of wedlock and then keeping it a secret for 30 years.

In that time he voted to impeach President Clinton, voted against money for sex education and contraception, voted against abortion rights, voted for DADT, voted for DOMA and voted for a federal constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage, even in states which had legalized it such as MA.

In short what a big asshole hypocrite!

From his 2006 vote for a constitutional amendment:

"I am a strong believer in the benefits of traditional marriage. While I understand that individuals are involved in various types of relationships, I believe we must give special recognition to marriage for one man and one woman, as it was defined in the Defense of Marriage Act a decade ago."

What Fnarf said - the more thanks that people like Rep. Hope (and specifically, REP. MIKE HOPE!) get, the more they'll realize that they can take a stand and have their constituents behind them.

It's really scary to be in a hearing room in Olympia filled with angry men with guns. It's brave to take a stand for common sense.

Also, according to his bio, he's active with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks. Good message to send to kids.

Named for their sponsor, U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), the Tiahrt Amendments are provisions that have been attached to U.S. Department of Justice appropriations bills since 2003 that significantly restrict law enforcement’s ability to investigate gun crimes and prosecute unscrupulous gun dealers.

The Amendments currently:
•Prohibit the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from releasing firearm trace data for use by cities, states, researchers, litigants and members of the public;
•Require the Federal Bureau of Investigation to destroy all approved gun purchaser records within 24 hours; and
•Prohibit ATF from requiring gun dealers to submit their inventories to law enforcement.

Repubs are so brilliant. Shooting a Bill is a smart way to demonstrate against gun control.
