As Mike Malone said in his remarks today, this wouldn't have happened without Mayor McGinn working for years to make this happen (when they weren't able to make any progress with NIckels). Campaigning or not, thanks.

What does affordable housing mean in this context? Like, will it be available to all, or must you qualify as low-income to be considered?

It's amazing what he has accomplished on Capitol Hill. The rest of the city? Not so much.

Is there anything in the long history of human pomp and ceremony that is stupider than a "groundbreaking"?

(Other than mock-cannibalistic religious rites, of course.)

At least a cornerstone-setting has some weak functional significance.

(Close second: ribbon-cuttings as a metaphorical loss of building virginity. Every scruffy tradesman [and half of his spawn] has already crossed the threshold and shat in the toilets.)

Yayyyyyy more construction on 12th. It's not like those of us who live on that street want to ever be able to use the sidewalks again or anything.

@6 they do that a lot for groundbreaking ceremonies. Problem is the media actually expects you to "break ground".

as I found out a few years ago when I needed to move, the term 'low income' is a strange beast. One can be too poor, yes, too poor, to qualify to live in several complexes in the city designated as having 'low income' apartments available. wtf?

88 affordable housing units mean, if you make 32k a year, married, 2 kids, wife doesn't work, then you cant afford to live there.

What happened to affordable housing for the lower middle class? Goodbye Seattle, hello Kent!

It's good to see that Seattle dirt is a big fan of the Broncos!
