I'm okay with sending in UAVs to stop the war in Mali. Better drones than soldiers. If a drone gets shot down, its only money we've lost. And I am definitely in favor of stopping the countless acts of horror that take place in Africa daily. We take safety and security for granted here in America. Why should we be the only ones to know freedom from warlords?

Any civilian of drones should require a court order, such as for searching for someone lost in the wilderness.

2,

Phoebe, please don't read a condescending tone into what I'm about to say. Are you suggesting that we get a court order for every military action performed in a theater of war? That would be like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500.

I think a better argument would be that the POTUS should obtain Congressional authorization to engage in war. I think also the COTUS should monitor the conflict and pull authorization if at any point the POTUS exceeds his mandate. That would be in complete alignment with our legal system.

What the judicial branch as to do with combat operations, I don't know.

@5: Oops, I meant 'civilian use of' -- within this country, not in war. But I concur with what you said.

All they really need is a 10000m specialist to follow Pistorius. If he goes to flight, he'll build up an early lead but he can be caught before the finish.

I like the un-fair campaign. I'm white and from a upper-middle class family, and it is pretty clear how all those things have benefited me. I don't feel guilty, I just recognize that the unfairness exists and try not to discriminate.

MN is an interesting place to go about this campaign. Of all the places I've lived racial discrimination was least obvious there. I don't deny that it was present, it was just more subtle, and depended more on class and wealth than color.

@10 - You can make yourself feel better with ad hominem attacks, but the truth of those ads is still true, despite how uncomfortable it makes you. It's ok. We all respond to personal implications by being defensive at first. Take a deep breath, accept the truth, and move forward.

'but the truth of those ads is still true'

So, you have empirical evidence?

Another athlete/pseudo-hero gets to play golf and/or hit the beach after killing his wife/girlfriend. The rules don't apply to them and they know it and act accordingly.

What @13 said. POS roid-raging narcissist freaks out & kills his trophy bed-toy. Gets the velvet-glove treatment in a place with a very rough criminal justice system. The Johnnie Cochrane force is strong with this one.
