Thank gawd we don't have cameras there anymore because that would violate our privacy. I wish the victim a speedy recovery and the perp a jail cell.

"Officers were unable to locate the suspect, whom the victim described as a tall, thin, white man with bad acne and teeth."

Funny... we almost never see descriptions of suspects on Slog. Unless, of course, they have "bad acne and teeth".

The horrors of the article aside, the statement "the suspect told the dog to leave" is hilarious.

Suspect is hatless! Repeat, the subject is hatless!

@5 - seriously, he is just an asshole? people think I am an asshole, but I am certainly no rapist... He may have not gone that far, but from their it ain't a long distance to the other.

That is terrifying.

Why is everyone awake so early?

Did he just have teeth or bad teeth?

(Here's how the SPD Blotter phrases it: "The victim described the suspect as a white male, in his 30′s, approximately 6 feet tall, thin build, with bad acne on his face, bad teeth, short black hair.")

A leisurely stroll through Cal Anderson Park at 4:00 a.m. What could possibly go wrong?

@6 I am wondering if he was masturbating in order to get an erection to rape her. I don't know if he would have gone further if able.

@10 let's not victim blame. Thanks.

@11: That's not blaming the victim, its a comment about avoiding dangerous areas at night.

Exactly, if she would have waited a few hours there would have been 0% chance of rapy conditions. Golly it's just so plainly obvious. Oh oh oh, and the part about the guy not raping, let's just make sure we remind him of his actions last.

4am is not "night". 4am for some people is, like the two men mentioned, "walk the dog before work" or, as when I had to be at work by 6:30 am when I worked at Boeing "going to catch the bus".

But, but, everyone should have a right to walk through the worst part of town in the middle of the night without fear!

(Yep. And those same people believe in angels, fairy dust, mermaids and gun control too.)

Indeed however, it is repugnant that good citizens have to alter their patterns in response to high crime areas.

@17: Cal Anderson park is hardly "the worst part of town", and @18: in the winter it is "dark" in Seattle until just after 7 am, and the sun sets just after 4 pm. This leaves me as a woman roughly 9 hours in which to get anything done without being castigated for attempting to live my life while it is "dark" or the middle of the night.

Buy a gun and learn how to use it. That's what normal people do.

@10, etc., y'all are taking exactly the wrong lesson from this. The reason this assault wasn't worse, in part, is because the crime was interrupted by other people in Cal Anderson Park at 4 am, walking their dog. So the answer is clearly more people walking through Cal Anderson Park at 4 am. And also more dogs.

What's also ridiculous about the arguments of douchebags like #10 is that Cal Anderson, due to how its structured, has better sight lines than any of its surrounding side streets. Since there's so little foliage and trees in that park, you can see people approaching from a considerable distance, which is likely why Mr. Rapist suckered the woman into stopping to help him before he attacked her.

And, if you really wanted to victim blame, it would make more sense to blame her for helping a man supposedly in distress. That's how Bundy kidnapped a number of his victims. If a woman sees a man who's supposedly needs help when there's no one else around, she should call for an ambulance and not try to help directly.

@21: I do, and I do. However, none of the places I have worked, allow fire arms on their property. Not even in the locked trunk of your car. So, your solution is a poor one.

Women should not walk around in the dark in Seattle and never stop to help male strangers in distress. If a woman is caught out in the dark and encounters a male in distress she should simply let him die as calling for help would cause a delay in her flight to a safe place which is a well light security building that has been checked in advance for sex offenders. Men who might find themselves in distress should never be where a woman might pass them by. Which again is exactly what all women should do. Quickly!
