We know Maine is poor and overrun with out of state swells who have mansions. That Maine came so close is wonderful in the long arc of justice.

Just get another 2000 Bostonians to flee up to Portland and it'll be taken care of. In fact, if you just got all the gays who ran away from Maine to go back for one year and get registered there, that would do it too.

Announcing gay boycott of tourism in Maine would work, too.

Paul, I remember a while back you complained about the title of the Thomas Frank book What's The Matter With Kansas--but i'm wondering if you ever ended up reading it, and if so, if you think there's some resonance with your experience growing up in Maine. The fundamental idea is that we lack the discursive space to really consider economic populism, so conservative social politics are largely a mapping of economic anxieties onto issues of sexuality and religion.

How about Maine approving their initiative on Medicinal Marijuana?

Paul, I'd no more blame you for Maine than I'd hold myself responsible for Riverside CA, the armpit that I come from.
