I feel bad for the people losing their jobs, but Waldenbooks was even more of an anachronism than your standard independent book seller. Tiny stores, small inventory, it's amazing they've lasted as long as they have given the rent they must have been paying in malls. Tough to beat Barnes and Noble in the bricks and mortar world, and a dead man walking compared to Amazon.

I never liked going into the Waldenbooks in the Spokane Valley Mall. There was always this really creepy guy working there. Had this Steve Buscemi as Norman Bates vibe going on.

Not that I wish ill upon him or anything. I hope he finds a new job, although preferably one that doesn't involve customer interaction.

Can we expect a blurb about Saturday November 7 being National Bookstore Day with a directive to support our local bookstores?

@3, I don't think supporting your local bookstore one day out of the year is going to help.

@3: odd,

I never met a creepy guy there - there's one fellow who's been pretty helpful when I go in there. Kind of sad to lose a borders. Though I wish the one at the Y would stop rearranging their inventory every three months, it makes it hard to find books.
