MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20 This week of crime, crime, and more alleged crime kicks off with a crushing tale of love gone wrong in New Jersey, where this evening a boyfriend and girlfriend were embroiled in a heated argument until the boyfriend allegedly ran over the girlfriend repeatedly with his car and left her for dead, which she soon enough was. Details come from ABC News, which identifies the accused driver as 26-year-old Charles Ann and his tragically unlucky girlfriend as 25-year-old Aena Hong. The couple was spotted this evening on a road in Fort Lee, New Jersey, where Ms. Hong was reportedly walking alongside a Hyundai Sonata being driven by Mr. Ann, with whom she was embroiled in a verbal altercation. "Just before the incident, the vehicle was observed to drive away from Ms. Hong and turn around," wrote Bergen County prosecutor John Molinelli in a statement obtained by ABC. "As the victim was crossing the road, [Ann] rapidly accelerated his motor vehicle, striking Ms. Hong." Prosecutors allege Ann then put his car in reverse, backed over Ms. Hong, then drove over her a third time, leaving her with injuries that would kill her within the hour. Tomorrow morning, Ann will be arrested and charged with murder.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21 The week continues with a much more benign and charming alleged crime in Madison, Wisconsin, where today 52-year-old James Summers showed up for his first day of work as the new general manager of a Madison-area Denny's. "Dressed in a maroon tie and black trench coat and carrying a briefcase... Summers, 52, entered the Denny's and found restaurant manager Tracy Brant counting out the day's receipts in a back office," reports the Associated Press. "He announced he was her new general manager and would be starting work that evening. Brant challenged him, saying corporate headquarters hadn't notified her of any new general manager. She suggested he had the wrong restaurant. But Summers maintained his story, growing more confrontational after Brant told him she didn't believe him. He told her he was starting and that was final, investigators said in the complaint." While Brant phoned a Denny's hiring manager to confirm that Summers had no affiliation with Denny's, Mr. Summers allegedly went to work at the grill, preparing himself a burger and fries, before sitting down to enjoy his pre-shift meal, which was rudely interrupted by the cops. "Police found a stun gun in a hip holster under his coat and crack pipes in his briefcase, a criminal complaint showed," reports the AP. "Prosecutors charged him Wednesday with disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, and felony possession of an electronic weapon."

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22 Nothing happened today, unless you count the girl in Bremerton who arrived for a day of third-grade classes at Armin Jahr Elementary School and wound up with a critically injurious gunshot wound to the stomach, thanks to a male classmate who allegedly brought a semiautomatic pistol to school. "Documents stated the boy had a .45 caliber semi-automatic Heckler and Koch pistol in his backpack, cocked and with the safety off," reports KING 5. "Witnesses said he slammed the backpack down on a desk, and the gun fired, hitting [the girl] in the abdomen." The girl—identified as 8-year-old Amina Bowman—is undergoing extensive surgery and remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. The 9-year-old boy has been charged with unlawful possession of a gun, bringing a dangerous weapon to school, and third-degree assault.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23 Following yesterday's tragic mess, the week continues with the type of criminal we can all enjoy: a clear-cut shitbag who begs for our hatred. Today's shitbag: Roosevelt Johnson Jr., the Seattle man caught trying to pimp out two undercover police officers posing as 17-year-olds near Westlake Center in 2009. Currently serving a four-year prison sentence for attempted child prostitution, Johnson has sought to appeal his conviction on the grounds that attempting to pimp someone pretending to be a minor is not the same as attempting to pimp a minor. Today the state supreme court unanimously upheld his conviction, backing "earlier decisions by the high court finding that those caught soliciting sex from officers posing online as children can be convicted of attempted child rape or related charges," as Seattlepi.com reports.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24 The week continues with a high-drama tale of criminal creepiness and hair-trigger heroism at the Seattle Home Show, where today a mirror on a shoe led to a punch in the face for a man accused of taking "upskirt" videos at CenturyLink Field Event Center. "A Seattle police report said a man who was operating a booth at the show noticed the man standing a few inches behind his wife for what seemed like an unusual amount of time," reports KIRO. "The woman's husband said the man had his foot directly under his wife's skirt and appeared to be shifting his foot into a particular position when he noticed there appeared to be a mirror attached to the man's shoe. The husband approached the man, hit him in the face, and then held him down with the help of some bystanders until security arrived." Police arrived to allegedly find 41-year-old Daniel Kreiter in possession of a "small video camera with a separate hard drive, a remote control device, several electronic cables, and an iPhone" and arrested him for investigation of voyeurism. (This is why we can't have nice home shows.)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25 Speaking of shitbags with iPhones, the week continues with Chris Brown, the R&B star convicted of felony assault after visiting an extended beatdown—complete with punching, choking, biting, and death threats—upon then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. Earlier this month, Brown was celebrated at the Grammys by an industry that should be ashamed of itself. Which brings us to this week, when Chris Brown again found himself in trouble with the law, after his barely controlled assholism allegedly flared up outside a nightclub in Miami. Details come from NBC Miami, which reports the shit went down last weekend outside the South Beach club Cameo, where a 24-year-old woman and self-professed Chris Brown fan spotted the star leaving the club by the side exit. "The woman, Christal Spann, and her friends followed Brown... outside and saw him get into his black Bentley, according to a Miami Beach Police report," reports NBC. "Spann approached Brown and took a photo with her $500 white iPhone 4S while he was sitting in his car. Then the surly hip-hop star reached through the window, took her cell phone from her hands, and said, 'Bitch, you ain't going to put that on no website'"—then drove away. Listing the offense as a "robbery by sudden snatching," the state attorney's office is preparing an arrest warrant for Brown, who clearly needs some time in prison.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26 Nothing happened today, unless you count the Oscars, where the biggest surprise of the night was Meryl Streep winning best actress. recommended
