• THE OAK • Beacon Hill: The team behind the Redwood on Capitol Hill brings Beacon Hill this place that can contain children and also has a cocktail lounge for grown-ups. The Oak's beer comes from local breweries; its menu focuses on organic/locally grown food. Our semi-inebriated friend Brad reports that the lounge is "dark and comfortable," and he further says, "Thank god it's open." (3019 Beacon Ave S, no phone, $)

• BOUNGU KENKEN • on the road: Boungu KenKen's Facebook says, "I come from Haiti to make my dream come true. To bring all the wonderful recipes my mother and grandmother taught me to the beautiful people of Seattle." If you are a beautiful Seattleite (or even an ugly one) with dreams of eating Haitian food, this truck is for you. (9796 Holman Rd, 934-0032, $)

• THE ANGRY BEAVER • Greenwood: The Angry Beaver is a Canadian-themed bar with hockey (on TV, presumably, and maybe the air version?) and poutine. This is Megan Seling's "bar-dream come true." It's where the Pig 'n' Whistle used to be. (8412 Greenwood Ave N, 782-6044, $$)

• CHEESE WIZARDS • on the road: "Really, what is better than a delicious melty cheese sandwich on fine artisan bread? Not much, according to our exhaustive wizardly research," these grilled-cheese freaks say. Now they'll serve you their cheesy magic from their lovely Wizard Wagon—it's kind of pricey for grilled cheese, but good. (360-621-0048, wizardsofcheese.com, $)

• MONTE CRISTO • on the road: The creation of Danielle Custer (former director of TASTE and, long ago, head chef at the great 727 Pine), this is another truck specializing in "gourmet grilled cheese" made from artisan ingredients—it's kind of pricey for grilled cheese, but presumably good. • COPPER COIN • West Seattle: This neighborhood place where the Porterhouse Pub used to be has a wide-ranging menu that "celebrates the bounty of the NW" (including burgers and "the real-deal original Red Mill onion rings"—the owner is a nephew of the Red Mill's famous Babe), plus enough beer on tap that the Washington Beer Blog says it fills “a massive void for beer drinkers” in West Seattle. • PARIS BAKERY AND DELI • Columbia City: Embodying the French influence on Vietnam, PB&D is a banh mi joint with a bakery side coming soon. Our friend Jill liked the pork banh mi she had; she says, "Along with all the expected delights of a good Vietnamese sandwich, this one also had chopped fried peanuts." • JUST CREPES • Belltown: This shop beneath the monorail makes a selection of reportedly yummy Japanese-style crepes (like chicken satay or banana/Nutella), and despite its name, it also serves bubble tea. (2502 Fifth Ave, 456-5506, $)

• CAFFE TORINO • South Lake Union: Caffe Torino is a self-described "snippet of Northern Italian coffee and culinary traditions," run by a real Italian person. (422 Yale Ave, 682-2099, caffetorinoseattle.com, $)

• PESTLE ROCK • Ballard: Specializing in the cuisine of northeast Thailand, Pestle Rock says, "We believe what the Isan people believe: 'more messy means more delicious.'" Bring a bib, perhaps? (2305 NW Market St, 466-6671, pestlerock.com, $–$$)

• HA! • Fremont: Ha! (named after a laugh) fills the void left (literally) by Hunger with Mexican and American food and specialty cocktails. (4256 Fremont Ave N, 588-1169, $$)

• EL SABROSO • Beacon Hill: El Sabroso food truck is run by Daniel Perez, head chef of Tango. Its charming website features an array of flash animation and Mexico-themed music videos. It parks behind the Beacon Hill light rail station. (2524 16th Ave S, 551-1432, elsabrosodeseattle.com, $)
