• IL CORVO • Pike Place Market: But never fear—the awesome pasta will return in a bigger Pioneer Square space, where BuiltBurger used to be, in the new year. Also coming soon in Pioneer Square: Matt Dillon's Bar Sajor (plus a bakery/cafe called London Plane) and a butcher shop from Rain Shadow Meats' Russ Flint (who says yes, it will be called Rain Shadow Meats II: Electric Boogaloo, but we're pretty sure he's kidding). YAY.
• SHIPWRECK TAVERN • West Seattle: After three short years, the rather awesome dive is now serving down in Davy Jones's locker. The owners say, "The ship is wrecked... We want to thank everyone for all their support and especially to all the wonderful musicians who have graced this bar... We love you all and thanks again."
• OLD TOWN ALEHOUSE • Ballard: Goodbye, Old Town—the space will become a New Ballard–style "Prohibition Era Apothecary Bar" called Percy's, featuring a couple of prodigal mustachioed barkeeps returning from Manhattan's Apotheke, all brought to you by one of the owners of Bimbo's/the Cha Cha/King's Hardware.
• COSTAS OPA • Fremont: After one million years, the world's first Greek restaurant is closed. Congrats to owner Costas Antonopoulos on its (and his own) longevity.
• 35TH STREET BISTRO • Fremont: Used to be the Still Life (sigh), had its ups and downs as 35th Street, soon will become the probably completely great Agrodolce from Maria Hines (Tilth, Golden Beetle).
• B&O ESPRESSO • Capitol Hill: After 36 years, they're really, finally, actually closing—say good-bye on the final day, December 9. Then IT'S BAAAAAACK: Watch for a new location in Ballard at 5404 Leary Avenue Northwest in the New Year.
• EMMER&RYE • Queen Anne: After almost three years, Seth Caswell shut down, citing 150 percent higher costs and static check averages, as well as having taken on too large of a space. He says: "Thank you to all of the support for emmer&rye... there are millions of great memories to hold on to forever," and urges us all to keep supporting local farmers.
• RORO BBQ • Ballard: After less than a year, the RoRo near Ballard High School and (too near?) Smokin' Pete's is done, due to lack of business (as an employee told My Ballard). We also just belatedly found out the Georgetown RoRo closed this past spring. The Wallingford branch remains open.
• JUJU and ALLEY BURGER • Belltown: This incarnation of Juju felt kinda generic—like it was meant to efficiently dispense drinks and then be hosed out at the end of the night. (Back on Capitol Hill a billion years ago, the bar, then called the Bad Juju Lounge, had a large live snake that resided depressively in a glass enclosure among the liquor bottles.) As for Alley Burger, we heard it looked great but tasted less so.
• LUISA TAQUERIA • Beacon Hill: Luisa didn't last long, but soon the space will house Beacon Ave Sandwiches, brought to you by the people behind the great cafe/community-and-hiphop hangout the Station.
• ALL-PURPOSE PIZZA • Central District: After seven years, the owner told Central District News, it just wasn't penciling out—sad!
ALSO NOW CLOSED: CAFE KANAPE on Capitol Hill: The building was reportedly sold • LA CASA AZUL in Wallingford: Well-reputed, family run; the original in Greenwood remains open • GASPARE on Phinney Ridge: After a looong time • PAU HANA on Capitol Hill: In that weird space where nothing lasts behind Skelly and the Bean • PHO TAI on Capitol Hill: That place across from Machiavelli that was always sadly empty, yet lasted an oddly long time • PIG 'N' WHISTLE in Greenwood: It was right next to the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co., and it's already become Canada/hockey-themed bar the Angry Beaver • PINKABELLA CUPCAKES on Queen Anne: The other locations remain open.
