For once, this column isn't going to be about you. This is going to be about me.

First, let me say that by no means am I any kind of personality. At least not of the radio/TV/public sort. I generally fumble and swear a lot when forced to speak in front of crowds, and even when I do the occasional radio appearance on 107.7 The End's local show, The Young & the Restless, I'm only able to get through the two hours because the show's hosts, harms and Chris Travis, are friends of mine who generally spend the time making fun of me. (Rightfully so, sadly.)

And that's exactly why I like writing. There's careful thought involved in writing—as well as editing and the correcting of dumb mistakes. With public speaking, you can't do that. If you say the wrong word, you're stuck with it. For-ev-er. But despite my strong disdain for public speaking, I'm making a big leap from the written word to the spoken word in The Stranger's new audible calendar, Setlist.

Here's how it works: Every week, I go through the listings and find all the local artists with the little headphone next to 'em () in the calendar. That symbol means that band or artist has a page posted on The Stranger Bands Page (www.thestranger.com/bands), and you can log on and hear a few of their songs. I will find my favorite Band Page bands playing that week, and then play them for you on Setlist. You're welcome!

With Setlist you can skip all the pesky business of actually reading the paper (who has that kind of time?) and just click a link and listen! Not only will you hear the song and a bit about the bands, but you'll also hear all the show info you need should you wanna go check 'em out.

But here's the rub. Setlist can't be cool without your help. And this is the reason for today's little self-promoting public-service announcement. I can't play great bands unless great bands post their music on The Stranger Bands Page. Already I've featured a bunch of really amazing local talent (Pretty Girls Make Graves, the Divorce, Common Market, Schoolyard Heroes), and I also make sure to play some up-and-coming artists that I've been liking lately (Shorthand for Epic, Tex, the Lonely Forest), but I can't play your band unless your band gets the goods up online stat.

So go to www.thestranger.com/bands. Click the POST AN AD button, and fill out the form with all the required information. You could very well be next week's Setlist superstar. Then next time it'll be all about you, and not me.
