Always pleasant to drop in

We drop in on Stellina frequently and always enjoy it. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, and the food is consistently good. My favorite is the hominy stew- rich, yummy, always satisfying comfort food. The wine selection is a great value, too.

Great cuisine, service, value

Skip the line at Quinn's and get the real experience at Stellina's. It's what neighborhood eats are meant to be. The pork tenderloin was delicious as was the brisket. The sauces really stand out. The eggplant bruschetta super savory. We had two quality Iberic vinos by the glass. The only bad thing, was no more room for desert.

Juggling!

Perfect balance of savory, sweet, crisp and creamy. I ordered the quiche and was delightfully surprised with it. The day's special was ratatouille and it almost tasted like I was eating a delicious lasagne. It was lovely in all the right ways, crisp flaky crust, light fluffy egg and perfectly seasoned. The complimentary salad of fresh greens drizzled with basalmic vinegar was heaven. The triumvirate of quiche, greens and basalmic regularly cleansed the palate and the combination was a beautiful, fragrant feast.

Roll the Dice

I visited Stellina frequently (coffee mostly) at their tiny first location and liked it enough. I just made my second trip to their 12th Ave place yesterday (by accident, bumped into a friend who was going there, while walking by). It's hard to totally write this place off. Yesterday, the food (curry "pot pie" and Hominy Stew) tasted fine, good even, but... there's always just something amiss. Like, say, the hair in the curry, oh, and the one on the napkin under then curry bowl. Call me sick, but I'm not thrown too far off by such things (and they took it off the bill and gave us dessert as compensation for the unpleasantness), but it doesn't give me comfort that things are going to be alright if I go there again. Everything is hit or miss... service, presentation, consistency of the dishes. You may not regret going there, but you may really regret it as well. You choose.

2nd time shame on me

I was very excited about Stellina when they opened up near my Cap Hill office, but my first experience there was horribly dissappointing - I tried the Hominy Tomato and Green pepper stew and it consisted of the following: 1 can hominy 1 can tomatos 1 can mild green peppers 1/2 cup melted cheese there were no seasonings incorporated, no flavor, no salt and it wasn't baked or stewed or really treated in any way other than heated slightly. It was a long time before I went back, but today I decided to give them another try. I had the Polenta cakes with Salmon and creme fraiche and unfortunately found the dish altogether flavorless and greasy. The polenta cakes were soaked in oil and not "grilled" as the menu described, the spinach was also drenched in oil and the "creme fraiche" was store bought sour cream (which is not the same thing at all). Again there were no herbs or seasonings encorporated. I won't be back to Stellina and it's too bad, because the place is lovely and the location is great.

Glad they moved

I had lunch many times at Stellina's old location at 20th and Union, and always left feeling like it was the best lunch deal in the city. So I was pleased when they found a new space and opened for dinner. I have found the food to be consistently high quality and reasonably priced. And the owners still make me feel like a neighbor.

It's OK because Spiga is accross the way...

You don't want to find yourself at Stellina. It's over priced and tasteless at best. It's not an accident that Spiga is always booming and busy while Stellina sits empty.

Yum

Have visited Stellina both at the new and old place, and enjoy their food quite a bit. I don't think I'll ever understand their hours or what days they are open, but am glad when they are.
