Was great once

We used to love this place until new owners botched it all up. They used to have real ale pumps, great fish and chips, ok prices and fast service. But then one day, about 4-5 yrs ago, we went there and instantly knew this place had turned for the worse, the prices where now sky high, slow service and the food went to cafeteria quality. Plus, who puts cayenne in tartar sauce? Not recommended.

Meh...

Murphy's does have an above average beer selection, but the food is overpriced and terrible. The whole place seems shabby. The back deck is gorgeous in the Spring, but good luck getting any service out there. I think the waitress was high, or else just dim, but she had trouble either understanding or remembering our order.

A Great Happy Hour

Had a great Reuben and the Guinness is fantastic. This place has become better and better. The Happy Hour is real good with good size portions and 16 oz pints for $3 (not the fake pints one finds at other Irish establishments in Fremont). Their beer batter used for the pickles is tantalizing. The Trivia is the best - Go Wild Willey.

A good pint

Murphy's food has never been much more than average, the service somewhat more so (Irish-disinterested-Bartender-type) But the music has always been heartfelt and the Guinness poured correctly and dutifully. Now that I've moved back to Boston I find myself missing Murphy's and the friendly crowd more by the day. The locals always skip St. Patrick's Day preferring to leave it to the amateurs... Slainte

Has been

Maybe I'm dating myself by writing this but I remember back in the 80's when Murphy's was one of the first true Irish pubs in Seattle with genuine publicans who knew how to pour a Guinness and who could intelligently discuss their single malt options. This was once The Destination bar for St. Patty's Day and was known for its simultaneous neighborhood and cosmopolitan vibe. That's all past tense. These days, rude punky bartenders and waitresses, blaring bad rock music, corked warm red wine, and sloppy cocktails heavy on whatever comes out of the bar pistol. The booze is pricey and the food is adequate but not much more. Years ago, this was a favorite meeting place with friends but now it seems to be at the bottom of the list for even a quick drink before a movie despite its close proximity to the Varsity.

hmmm...

i'm not sure what to say about murphy's. i was there last night for trivia and really think it is, at best, such a middle of the road place (with pretty obnoxious prices). you won't find a lovingly poured guinness, good food, or a real genuine "pub" atmosphere - but they do serve beer, wine and liquor so you can at least get drunk enough not to really care about all that. head down the street to al's if you can make it all the way without the DT's shaking you to your knees...

one of the finest

When I'm looking for some great happy hour eats in a genuine environment, I head straight for Murphy's. They have the best fries in Seattle and wonderful burgers.
