Restaurant Details

  • Ballet is Capitol Hill's humble champ of routinely tasty Asian food, served by extremely nice people. While all kinds of different dishes are on the menu (stir-fries, noodles, pho), the vegetables here are notably fresh. And while Ballet's diner ambiance is commensurate with its cheap-eats prices, it's always a pleasant place to be.

  • Cuisine: Pan-Asian and Vegetarian

oh so good

First, i love this place. i love how good, comforting, and cheep it is. i love the service and the spring rolls. the one, small, complaint i have is that they won't serve tables after 8:30 (sometimes earlier!), and sometimes won't even do to-go orders after 8:30, even though thier hours are clearly posted until 9. i have been saddened by this many times. but the years of happiness i've had here do make it more than worth trying over and over again.

Great Phad Thai

The decor is pretting bad, not interesting at all, but not offensive either. However, the food is fantastic. I am a connoisseur of Phad Thai and I think they have some of the best in the city. I recommend getting it to go and eating it in Cal Anderson Park.

A Pike/Pine necessity

I'm so glad Ballet is still around and it never changes much. I will always go back for the the Tofu Sate -- noodles and veggies and tofu in a spicy peanutty sauce with other flavors that I can't name. The place is low key and friendly and still feels family run -- it always seems like you're being waited on by one of the owner's kids. Maybe prices have gone up a little, but it's still pretty damn cheap considering prices elsewhere in the neighborhood. And best of all, it has big ol' blotchy orange and white fish in giant fish tank.

Fav place on the Hill

One of the first places I tried when I moved here a year and a half ago. Now I am a regular and they know exactly what I want when I walk in (no matter how long its been since the last visit.) Best cheap veg food anywhere. Why pay more when you don't have to!! Tofu curry forever! PS...they also put BROCCOLI in their dishes...ha!

Not much to look at but who cares!

I Live for the fresh tofu spring rolls. For only $1.25 they are twice the size of most places and they are always fresh and tasty. I sometimes just buy three and call it lunch! It sort of looks like an old cafeteria, but the staff are all super cute and friendly. It is a regular lunch spot for me.

Remember When You Could Smoke In Here

Oh, I miss the days when you could smoke in here. But Seattle is healthier now. I have eaten here on and off since 1998 and have never been dissatisfied. Most of the students who serve you are also family members and they treat you like a distant cousin, I love that. I'm very sure they don't get tipped as much as they should so, please, be generous. Veggie friendly, meat friendly, be aware of the specials.

Good Chicken Curry

Ballet is a perfect little place. Fast, cheap, nice people. Sure they only use three vegetables but who needs all those veggies confusing everyone. (having written this I can only think of two vegetables in their food: onions and carrots. But I'm sure they have a third one. I know. Sprouts! They have Sprouts too!) Great service too...

The food is good, but the service is great. No resting on their laurels for this spot.

Best Cheap Eats on the Hill

It's not the best restaurant in the world, but if it's better, it's three times as much, and if it's cheaper it's three times worse. Great fresh and fast. And friendly. Lovely "we only had ten dollars at the Chinese gift store" decor.
