Much The Place to Be!

The Broadway Grill… now known as The Grill on Broadway is much improved. The new ownership has the drive and inspiration to make this THE gay icon restaurant on Capitol Hill as it has always strived to be. The recent remolding, new menu and same fabulous location make this a great place to meet friends for a drink, have dinner with your family, or sit and watch people walk by on a sunny afternoon! I really can’t say enough about how much better The Grill on Broadway is now!

I give the new owners an A+ for improvement

If you've had bad experiences here, I recommend going back now. This place has improved a lot since the new owners took over sometime this past spring. They've improved their recipes, and they're using organic ingredients where they can. My favorite dish used to be the buttermilk fried chicken. Now it's the low-fat turkey meatloaf. Their iced tea is made with mint, which totally rocks my socks.

As others have said, ask for a table up front so you can watch the people pass on Broadway, especially if the outside seating is open.

The patio is enough reason for celebration! But totally cheap drink & eats menu... it's like Happy Hour is every hour. Bring your girlfriends or "guuuurl" friends for a big gay time.

Decent, I guess

Here is a Californian with Attitude, I guess, according to another review on here, giving his opinion on this establishment. I went with a local who loves it, so I had an open mind. Hmm. The decor is quite nice - especially at holiday time with multiple light strings going on - but the menu is uninspired, the prices on the high side, and the food quality subpar. I wouldn't go back. GREAT location and ambiance is doable.

Burn it down and start over!

Been going for years... decided to pop in for lunch one day.

Ordered two sandwiches, mine was... OK, partner's was raw (chicken). Complained to indifferent waiter, since our waitress was completely AWOL. Waitress came back 30 minutes later with the same nasty chicken that was zapped in a microwave, and said "I heard we had a meltdown here".

Huh? We were astonished. We asked her to repeat what she said, she then denied ever using the word "meltdown".

Left the inedible sandwich on the table, and went to leave. Decided to speak with the 'manager' who would up being the owner.

Manager immediately spoke the waitress, and then denied that the server said the words 'meltdown'. Enough details, needless to say we will never go back.

Doesn't matter who much the they "DO" for the gay community, food is so so, place is not clean, staff is rude, and menu is long in the tooth.

Time to start over bitches! Or maybe go back California and take your attitude with you.

The food is okay, but lord help you if you sit in the back room. It has about the same ambiance as a cafeteria, only with more echo. I'll only go back here if I know for certian I can eat outside or next to the window.

It's a little crowded with 20 things at times, you know the ones who look like they're trying to be late 1960's glamour stars just to go get some sliders,,,,but where else can you get a good beer and a name shot for under ten bucks. During Happy Hour, you can get two beers and two shot and stillleave a five spot tip, by just leaving a 20 on the bar. As far as cleanliness, this joint is much less smellier than a lot of the Broadway bar and grills. As far as the Homophobic remarks that taint these reviews, go screw yourself. As far as The Stranger lsiting this as a meat market, it don't make sense, This is a good date restaurant, but the jostling bar ain't for hook ups, it's for drinking.....good sliders

Don't expect good service or a decent meal

A friend and I went here once. Every time I walk past this place I am reminded of the awful food and service we got here. Drinks were served promptly enough, the waitress answered my questions like she knew what she was talking about; it was the start of a good meal. Then our food came. About an HOUR later. My black bean burger was good, but lukewarm. Fries, bordering on cold. Plus they forgot my side of veggies. My companions burger was burnt so hard on the bottom it was inedible. A quarter of the patty burnt to black! Who would have the nerve to serve you food like that? Not only did we complain, both parties on our sides complained. Wrong plates were served, wrong drinks, rude replies when you requested to send food back. Needless to say, the free dessert coupon they gave me if I chose to return has gone unused.

We have been going here for years - and every time we go we have a great time. It has a fun atmosphere, good drinks, great food and - best of all - it is just so fun to hang out on the sidewalk and watch Broadway go by while you enjoy the food!

After probably 20 visits I don't really have anything to complain about, except maybe the gnats flying around in the back area and the limited menu. What is on the menu, though, is usually pretty good and sometimes inventive. Service has always been pretty good for me regardless of how trashy I look, so no complaints there.

There was a dead roach floating in my guy's drink during our last late-night dessert/cocktail-seeking visit. The caramel/banana dessert was tasty enough, I guess but we won't be back.

the breakfast burrito kicks ass. but, just like everywhere else on b'way, you have to deal with the annoying over the top "look at me, i'm gay!" nonsense. and, when the places on the hill can start paying attention to cleanliness, i'll start going there more...

fried chicken, biatches!

Okay, the fact of the matter is that this place doesn't make a lot of sense. But does everything have to make sense all the time? The service has been friendly but slow on most visits. The drinks are hit-or-miss, and the atomosphere is...well, there are like 5 separate atmoshpheres in the place. BUT, the buttermilk fried chicken and the fish tacos alone are worth going for. The calamari is some of the best in the city and comes in a portion so mind-boggling that you would be hard pressed to finish the appetizer with 4 people, unless you are prepared to pack up your food to go. I don't recommend that. It's not so great the next day. Sit in the front if you get a chance, since that's the best people-watching and you can also flirt with the cooks.

No really the service sucks

The food at Broadway Grill ranges from reasonable to mediocre. I did enjoy the reuben but I have not seen it on the menu since. Their club sandwich came on a burger bun which wasn't bad but was strange. Their deserts are far better. Try the fresh chocolate chip cookie baked in a skillet or the chocolate cake with ice cream. I keep hearing people having good experiences with the wait staff so I am convinced that there is one good waiter/waitress there. If you get that one your in luck. If not expect to be treated with a mild neglect. Generally they are at least friendly even if somewhat indifferent. Drinks can be quite nice. I had the electric long island iced tea tho my waiter couldn't tell me what made it electric. They do have nice outdoor seating but it is crowded.

Worth the wait

I have never experienced bad service here... the wait staff = super friendly and attentive, and the food is straight forward and yummy. Good selection of micro-brewed beer.

Happy Happy Hour!

The happy hour specials are wonderful, and I love how they have a special drink of the day. I don't think I have had a bad experience here at all... the food is great, the waiters are really friendly, and I love the garden room inside with the chandelier made of glass fruit. Eating outside on the patio on a hot summer day is a great experience, although it can get a bit crowded because everyone wants to eat right there. Mmmmm...sweet potato fries and a margarita are the perfect way to end a Friday afternoon.

Terrible service

I find myself going here every now and then because they have great patio seating only to leave upset over the service. Time and time again, so you would think I would have finally learned my lesson by now. Trust me you will be very angry when you leave here since the staff is so slow and has so much attitude. Not worth starting your evening on a sour note now is it. Many better places on 15th Avenue and Pike Street have opened so avoid this place.

Consistently Mediocre

I don't mean consistently mediocre in a bad way. That's how my group of friends has described it for years and it doesn't stop us from going regularly. Katelyn is right about the hash browns, I've made it a tradition to get those with a side house salad for breakfast the morning after a hard night and it always does me right. Their brightly colored drinks will ruin you. Is it wrong to love consistency even if it's mediocre- I don't think so.

It is what it is.

I've been a semi-regular here for years. Some of my friends think they always add one weird ingredient so that everything there is bad, but I've usually been fairly happy. If you find something you like, you will generally always like it. Personally, I am all about the crab sandwich. Oh, and I really like Tea Tuesdays when I can get a Black Orchid Tea for $4.50.

Waiters are amazing...

and beautiful. I've never had such great service. You have to try the sweet potato fries. The food is normal burger fare and is ok. The waiters make up for everything.

nice foo-foo drinks

The two things to get here: foo-foo specialty drinks and hashbrowns. The drinks are fun and pretty, and the hashbrowns are crunchy and satisfying the morning AFTER you drank the foo-foo drinks. Don't bother eating anything else here, unless you LOVE overpriced mediocre wilted food. (Sorry, Grill.) The vegetarian options are yucky for the most part. Stick to appetizers if you must eat anything other than hashbrowns.
