Coastal Kitchen's menu changes quarterly, with different geographical themes but a continuing "fish-forward attitude"—serving solely sustainably raised and caught fish—but also including "'landlubber' house favorites." For its 20th birthday in 2012, an oyster bar was added. Weekend brunch always means huge lines.

Simple... this is a great spot for having brunch. The portions are addecuate, the food is very tasty, and the environment is quite lively. Loved the Latin American influence. Will definitely visit again.
One thing they could improve are the hashbrowns

There's a reason there's a line for Sunday brunch!

So we're waiting the predicted 40 minutes for a table, wondering why we're bothering; an omelette's an omelette, no? Well, maybe, but the corn griddlecakes and other fabulous pancakes, waffles, and unusual brunch concoctions are more than worth it. I'll be back.

Decent, but gimme my damn drinks!

The giant fish over the door and the line that snakes outside the door are two indications of what goes on here. Then again, Coastal Kitchen is located on 15th, which is also the home of the Great Theme Failure of 22 Doors (22 doors make up the bar! WOW! And…the rest sucks! But 22 Doors! WOW!). Additionally, someone famous and chef-like is supposedly the owner/proprietor of this place, which for some might cause creamed jeans. Speaking of, apparently Coastal Kitchen is THE place to go in Capitol Hill for Sunday-morning glow and awkward significant glances. Two misordered Bloody Marias into the breakfast, my cinnamon roll, my date, and my drink were all blushing – the roll from the jam I liberally spread on it, and the overheard conversations from the couples in the adjoining booths. The smoked salmon dishes are competently put together, but after a third request on the drink I finally gave up and drank the Bloody Mary (a Maria is made with silver tequila, not cheap-ass well vodka). The service is relatively spotty on a crushed, crowded Sunday, and leaving room for cream seems to mean that the waitresses expect that four ounces of coffee and five of cream is the way most people take their morning wakeup juice. Incidentally, I don’t recommend the specials – each time, the experiment in the kitchen fails, and I’m the one stuck munching the results.

Which Coast This Month?

Morroco? This place was little pricey compared to what I'm used to paying... but it's okay to splurge every once in a while. I had the yellowtail, and it was excellent. When I ate half my vegetables, the waitress offered to replace the ones I didn't like with more of the ones I did. I turned her down, but that's some great service.

Reliable tasty fare - nice atmosphere

Cobb salad gets a huge giant thumbs up every time. And that hot fudge sundae puts me over the top every time. Hard to get fudge sauce that good anywhere else. The decor is airy and pleasant and wonderfully pleasant in an unpretentious way.

always a pleaser

i've never had a bad experience here. i love the bloody mary's and salads. the portions are perfect and never greasy. i typically go during late lunch/early dinner time and there's no wait. actually.. it's usually pretty empty. P.S. i'm not a hipster.

Hung over? If you can take the wait...

Tied one on last night? Looking for relief. Bloody Mary Huevos Rancheros will get you back on the right track. Too bad you will have to wait thirty minutes for a table, where you will wait ten minutes to place an order, after which you will wait ten minutes for your coffee or drink. Hopefully, the staff will remember to put your order in with the kitchen and it won't get lost in the shuffle (happened to me at this place a few times). If it all plays out right, you really are in for a treat. And I second the shout out on the blueberry pancakes. They are that good.

Crowded hipster joint

I haven't been here very often, simply because most of the time, the crowds in front of the place just to wait for a table are too massive, and life is short. I have eaten here a couple of times and the food did not disappoint. It's predictably pricey, but you get a decent amount of quality food. But it's hardly worth the long wait. As the crowd in front would probably indicate, the service was a bit sluggish, even considering the crowds. If anything, the waitstaff does not work with a sense of urgency to match the big crowds. I've love to have a weekend breakfast here, but I simply can't if it's gonna take 45 minutes just to get me a seat at the bar, let alone the time to wait before my order's taken, let alone the time for my food to cook.

Run for the John

Everytime I have "blunch" at Coastal, I end up making a beeline for the bathroom. That area of the restaurants stinks like crap. It's a combo of the hash browns, coffee and grease, at least that's what I hope. But really, who knows. I do enjoy the blueberry pancakes quite a bit.

yummy brunch, skip dinner

Go here for awe-inspiring gingerbread waffles or one of the house scrambles (goat cheese, anyone?). Enjoy the cheerful decorating and the well-designed nooks and crannies of the dining rooms. Pretend you don't see everyone you know there.
