Breakfast Rocked! French Toast was awesome!

Had breakfast at the DeLuxe the other day. Couldn't sit on the patio because an L.A. film crew was shooting an ad for the U.S. Post Office. Bummer.

I had french toast, o.j. and pepper bacon and it was all great! Hit the spot like comefort food should! The food was exactly what I wanted -- a yummy American classic!

Terrible food and even worse service

Deluxe doesn't even deserve one star. We decided to try Deluxe for breakfast (they serve breakfast on the weekends only) and was totally disappointed in the food and service.

I a basic breakfast - scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and an english muffin. The sausage was horrible, it was cooked in a steamer and had no flavor and was chewy. The english muffin was stale.

My husband had the Pile Up and ordered a side of sausage gravy. The cooks at this place obviously have no idea what sausage gravy is supposed to taste like. The gravy was bland and tasted like reused Alfredo sauce.

In addition to the terrible food, our waiter was rude. When he brought our bill, we asked if we could split the check and he grabbed (yes grabbed) the check out of my hand and complained about what an inconvenience it would be to do that. I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant.

I will not be eating at Deluxe again.

I LOVE THE DELUXE! The best thing about the deluxe is that ANYONE can hang out there, its a real mixed bag, which is refreshing on capitol hill. The staff are super nice. They have a tasty cocktail menu and they have this burger call the stuffed burger... OMG. Try it. Great happy hour too. Five full stars for the best burgers on the hill.*****

Loving their Chicken Pesto Burger

Alright I'm sold.. the chicken pesto burger is by far the best thing ever!! I've never been a huge chicken burger person but this has got me. The atmosphere here is nice... great for a casual date or hanging with friends. I've always had decent service (timely) and they are all pretty nice there!

I have been a huge fan and regular patron of the Deluxe for over 6 years. After my most recent visit, I will not return until I hear that they have made some real changes.

I talked four of my friends into joining me at the Deluxe for happy hour this past Thursday. We were seated almost immediately, which almost never happens, so I thought we were off to a good start. While we waited for our server, I noticed there was a new happy hour appetizer menu, which did not include their famous Mini Mac and Cheese. After 15 minutes (we timed it) our server (John) finally came by. I asked him about the change to the appetizer menu and he said it changed a couple of months ago. I told him that I was disappointing that they removed the Mac and Cheese from the happy hour menu, and requested that he pass this along to the management. He scoffed at me and said he would not pass the information along. I said I would fill out a comment card and he said that they did not have any as that would be bad for business.

John then proved himself to be up to par with the standards of the Deluxe serving staff of the past year or so. He took 10 minutes getting us our first round of drinks, and to finally get a soda refill we had to hold up the empty cup and one of the other servers helped us out. He never once came by just to check on us, only to bring the food and drink refill. He maintained a self righteous queeny bitch attitude the entire time, which earned him a below average tip.

I have noticed the service at the Deluxe on the decline for a while now. With the recent changes to the happy hour menu, I am finding myself no longer enticed by the Deluxe. I have a feeling that waiting to get a table at the Deluxe will not be an issue for long.

Hey Deluxe Management,
If you are reading this I hope that you take the above statement into account. Also, for your own security you better not do away with Burgerama, your doors would close in no time!

LOVINK it!!!!

I've been going for Happy Hour on Fridays for about 2 years; they remember my name, my drink, what appetizers 1 like, and are genuinely happy to see me; they also ask where I've been if I haven't been for awhile. Excellent service, great drinks (try the Berry Cosmo or Washington Red Apple)....my absolute refuge from a sometimes sucky world!!!! I would give this place a Milky Way worth of stars!!!! WORD!!!!!

changes

Deluxe used to be one of my favorite brunch places because of their crab cakes benedict. Sadly, they are no longer on the new menu. And the regular benedict comes on biscuits. Ugh. They changed the tone of their breakfast menu and not for the better. I was there two Sundays ago and for the first time in years, very disappointed. The mac and cheese that my friend ordered seemed to have more american cheese in it, and the omelet I had was literally dripping in grease. It wasn't pretty. I hadn't been in a few months and was looking forward to breakfast, but now, I don't plan on returning for morning food. I used to love their burger Wednesdays and will try that again.

Decent burgers, good drinks

I’ve never been to the Deluxe before. It’s also at the tail end of Broadway, and that street has rapidly devolved in my eyes from the place of many delights to the place of many half-assed restaraunts with fey waiters, butch waitresses, and far, far too many aging urban hipsters to be amusing much longer. Walking down Broadway causes my irony gland to swell up and cause issues with tolerance, but at the very least, the urban moppets who look less like humans and more like inverted kitchen cleaners have swept away from the street and gone back to writing songs about their dead cat. I entered the Deluxe dreading what I might find there – and surprised the hell out of myself. The waiter was indeed a sweet fey boy with tousled black hair, but he and everyone else at the Deluxe were happy to be there. A Guinness off the tap was poured straight up and let to stand before a top-up; the fish tacos were huge and standing straight up on the plate. The burger – perfectly combined. I wouldn’t know much as to its veracity as a good date place; the echoes of the bar rang around and the large bay windows kept me too distracted from the friends I met up with. But as far as decent food and the standard New American fare goes, the Deluxe beats most other places hands down.

It's okay.

Their sandwiches are serviceable-- not fantastic by any means, but they fulfill the basic definition of New American amply. I also have a certain soft spot for their mac & cheese. However: drinking there isn't worth it. You can find far better bars very close by. The last time I was there at happy hour, I was charged $7 for a well drink that supposedly had fruit juice in it but tasted like salty battery acid (I suppose it was actually just well gin). That last time was just the last straw; I've had drinks there several times before, and they seem to get worse each time I go.

Best of Broadway, But ...

Deluxe's kitchen is open late -- a rarity these days -- and it's the only thing on Broadway that I feel I can touch without rubber gloves and a bleach rubdown. For those traits, it works. Good beer selection. Huge steak salad. Decent burgers. Everything else, however, is fairly subpar. If the aforementioned rubber gloves get your stomach rumbling, try the fish and chips -- similar taste and consistency. I wouldn't suggest hitting it before a film, either. Service is incredibly uneven (sometimes 40 minutes between end of meals and receiving the check ... do they really want to keep my pretty face in there?).

Nice and quiet (for Capitol Hill)

My favorite place on Broadway when I actually want to have a conversation over drinks without having to shout. Their burgers are pretty good and the beer selection has little something for everybody. They also have good pool tables available by the hour in the back. I've taken people there for first dates, quiet games of pool and hung over Sunday afternoons and never been disappointed.

Listen to my daughter.

She is 5 years old. Here is her review of the Deluxe: "It is a bad place. It's hamburgers have hooves in it. It is not a good place. It has fast food. It's hamburgers are stretchy and meat teeth in it and hooves. It is a terrible place and it is crowded." You've been warned.

I heart Burgerama!

Just like everyone else it seems! I also love their early happy hour menu. It is inexpensive, quality food. When I lived next door I used to go at least once a week. It also has a pretty great kid's menu (Hot Dogs, Mac & cheese, PB&J!!) and family sized booths, so it is a decent family option on Broadway if you are out shopping with kids in tow!

BURGERAMA!!!!!!!!!!!

i have forced countless people to join me for burgerama. ADD happy hour and it's the best american dining in the neighborhood. grandpa was visiting from the midwest and this was the perfect place to take him. picture this: grandpa of 65 just finished building his barn from scratch... I stroll him down colorfully wonderful broadway... and he LOVES his burger. deluxe = closing the gap of diversity... one midwestern at a time.

Used to be better

Burgerama is still a great deal, but the mixed drinks at Deluxe are SO WEAK. Happy hour appetizers are also a bargain, but unless you're drinking beer at Deluxe, expect to have to drink several mixed drinks to even get a buzz on. Once the management changed there a year or so ago (and most of the awesome long-time staff quit) the place just went downhill in its fun quality.

Burgerama and Breakfast!

I haven't been in a while, so I'm not sure if they still do Burgerama, where you get any burger on the menu and fries for $5.95. But I always thought their burger selection was decent for a sit-down bar joint. The quantity of food is satisfying and they've got a solid beer/wine selection without backbreaking prices. Their breakfast is also pretty decent, though basic. Can get crowded during the day.
