Green star Piecora's (Capitol Hill)

1401 E Madison St
Seattle, WA 98122
(206) 322-9411
Website

Piecora's has been making New York–style pizza at 14th and Madison for a couple of decades, and it's always good. They also deliver, but then you miss the vinyl booths and the pitchers of beer and the posters of the Empire State Building.

i LOVES/likes ME some PIECORAS!

I was born in NYC and raised there and in NJ and Philly and I've had a lot of pizza in my hard knock life in every kinda place back east that spoiled, snotty Seattleites will never be able to imagine.
That said, I strongly like Piecoras, not because the pizza is great but because it's not another stuck up Seattle yuppie shithole or thai place.
So, until a real New Yorker decides that he wants to live and make pizza on the edge of nowhere in dampness and darkness, surrounded by stoned yokels who think hiking boots/chucks and deer antlers/skinny jeans go with everything (at every age), I'll be at Piecoras eating me some acceptable pizza.

my favourite!

I have been eating here since before I even lived in Seattle. True, the crust is better on some nights than others, but the toppings always taste delicious. You won't see God like you would after a pie at Pagliacci's, but you will get an exceptional pizzeria experience with a family-vibe.

In a drunken stupor I once accidentally ate part of a pizza box...

that box tasted better than the "crust" they use at Piecora's. Maybe they should get the church that meets in there on Sundays to bless the dough machine.

Something weird about the crust

I like that you can get custom-made slices without having to buy a whole pizza. But there's something unsatisfying about the crust -- it's really starchy and thick. Too heavy? I prefer Pagliacci's crust but I'll eat Piecora's if that's where my friends are going, or if I'm headed to Chop Suey later (and that delicious hot dog cart isn't open yet).

Average

It's alright. Not really New York pizza, but not necessarily bad pizza either. Servers can be rude at times. Average, edible pizza that's slightly better than those "roll your own pizza restaurant" business like Amanti or whatever its called (you know, the pizza places that somehow all have the same menus and all taste the same, with the same pizza boxes that say Thank You!). The pizza here is better than the pasta.

New York Pizza? Hardly.

Piecora is definitely not a New York style pizzeria. The slices aren’t foldable, the crusts dance in the neighborhood of Chicago and the toppings merge with California-style pizza kitchens in a weird amalgation of styles that comes off confusing more than anything else. Surprising, because it bills itself as a New York style pizzeria more than anything else. And if by New York style they mean abstract, rude, brusque, and more intent on getting food from point A to point B, then they hit the mark, exactly. The pizza we ordered (a half pie) came with undercooked crust and crispy toppings; the calzone had black points, and while the Italian meatball sandwich was probably the best I’ve had since days of lounging in Denver at a former mob-owned restaurant, it certainly wasn’t enough to keep me rolling back in demanding more sweet marinara goodness.

Service has improved

We stopped going two years ago due to the poor service - we had been ignored for 45 minutes (oop!) and not given an apology. We tried it again Sept 14 and had great service and good food. It seems the middle-aged stoners have finally stopped working there. Thank you, I really like the pizza.

Piecora's is OK

I've done take-out and eat-in at Piecora's many times, and it's hit or miss--some days better than others. It's NOT "New York" pizza, but it's closer than most places in Seattle. When doing take-out or delivery, if you order plain you run the risk of getting old slices slapped into a box. Always ask for toppings so you get a fresh pie.

I think I'm done eating here

Correction, I've never actually eaten in the restaurant, but have been eating delivery from here for 6 years, and its been a steady slide towards thick gross soggy crust, sweet sauce, and lazy toppings. For the first few years the sauce tasted like a lasagna; the crust was thin crispy for delivery; and the toppings were thoughtfully dipersed lightly on the pie. Whatever happened to you guys? From the way other reviewers relay your in-store antics, I think I know why...Not unlike New Orleans, this is the pizzeria that care forgot.

So Many Employees, So Little Service

What's the deal with Piecora's? Every time I stop in they have twenty or so kids on the clock, milling about, watching the bigscreen TV. You figure with that many people working they'd be eager to jump on your order. Nope. Without fail I get monstrously ignored. Five minutes to get seated. Another ten to get water. Ten more to order. Fifteen minutes after that you get napkins to tide you over. Fifteen more to get the food. And this is just for a reheated slice. Blah. I could make my own pizza from scratch in that amount of time.

The service at Piecora's is so slow...

How slow is it? The waiter brought our check before we got our food. I am not kidding.

So-So

Pizza is ok, nothing to write home about, other then its too greasy. Employees have no social skills. Almost like they are all in college and are like "oh we are too cool for this job, you are beneath me." Too many kids running around. Oh and most important their beer tastes like the taps have never been cleaned. Yet I still return...why?

Pretty Good

Decent east-coast like pizza and good beer plus a nice location make this place worth coming back to. Not the best pizza i've ever had but it's hard to do well in Seattle. For some reason I avoided this place for years and only recently discovered it, and have decided it's not too bad!
