love it

I love McMenamin's places. I love their happy hour. Nothing like cajun tots, cheap wells and beer to make me happy. And I like the environment: mellow and fun.

had to summon the barkeep each time to get a drink

This place was dead due to the Block Party. I guess they felt too pained that it took practically waving a flag to get some help. I remembered why I don't go to this chain anymore.

Good stuff

Great happy hour, but good god the service is SO SLOW. Be prepared to wait. And wait. If they could speed things up I would be in there way more often. Great brewer's salad and beers though.

good food / beer

don't know why people had bad experiences with the food. i've had nothing but good. good burgers, good sandwiches, good burrito. the happy hour is great too, excellent prices. beer is very tasty as well. i enjoy this place, and is a good "let's get a late night snack" place, as well as grabbing a burger the cajun tots are unbeatable.

I'm with Tooty

The cooked food here is simply inexcusable. The salads seem to be fine, but I have never had a cooked item that was above mediocre (crunchy undercooked rice in a gumbo seasoned with excessive amounts of salt, undercooked fish at the center of the fish and chips). I want to like the place as it's convenient and has good beer and nice booths, after four or five tries I have sworn off the food as an option.

I'm totally fucking sure

It took 30 minutes for our food to arrive. My burger was not merely cold, but FROZEN in the center. It was the first and only time I ever told a waiter "actually, everything sucked" after being asked how was everything.

Excellent nosh, tragically hip waitresses

Dad Watson’s isn’t the same as my hometown McMenamin’s, but it’s got the same solid beers on tap. Asking for the nitro of the day is worthwhile, because the craft brewers know what they’re doing. I avoid the back patio because I’m not enthused about eating in a smoke-filled parking lot. The service, pretty standard for the McMenamin’s chain, seemed to favor the tragically hip over an empty glass. Expect to plunk down around $15 for two beers and a burger – not the cheapest, but not the most expensive, either. Three pints of the porter on nitro combined with a custom McMenamin’s burger – bleu cheese on grilled onions and Swiss over a thick burger on an onion roll, salad and side of tater tots – were perfect. While my waitress of the night seemed to buy into the idea that if you serve food as a gig in Seattle, one must have more piercings and tattoos than exposed unmarked flesh and hair greased directly from the deep fryer in the back, it fits more comfortably than your average saccharine Red Robin perkfest. The interior of the pub is done in the old wooden style with a long bar designed apparently to occupy floor space; but succeeded only in giving the bartender and wait staff a place to talk with their friends; of which that night there were more than a few. But all in all, a good place to hole up with a friend over good, solid beer.

good pub

It is basic, but tasty, tasty beer. Take it out on the porch on a nice day and eat the fish and chips.
