Restaurant Details

  • In its essentials, Paseo's pork sandwich is like a Caribbean bahn mi: grilled pork on a sturdy roll with cilantro and lettuce, and not stingy with the mayonnaise. However, a bahn mi is a tidy little operation, and a pork sandwich from Paseo is a lovely mess, with dripping marinade and onions that have been grilled for so long that they just give up and become a sweet, mellow tangle. Other things here—like the jerk chicken—are very good, but it's the pork that you remember.

best food EVER

As Paseo junkies are aware, the service is wretched...downright rude at times. On my last visit I was informed that "most of the finer restaurants in Seattle only accept cash, and we are no exception". This, of course, is nonsense on many levels. Wait times: ridiculous. Availability of your anticipated savory treat: dicey. Receiving an order without missing components: unlikely. Same flavor/tidbits/side dishes as your last visit: not usually. There may be green beans in the salad today, peas in your Con Gusto, or the (delightful) surprise appearance of rice pudding in your take-out. But every irritating foray into this world of Carribean delights will end in reward. Cuz' even when it's "bad", it's sooooooo good!!

Its tops

The tofu sandwich rocks my world. Messy as hell but its a steaming hot tasty pile (get it 5 star hot). Open till 9pm thank god! Friend had the pork sandwich which she said was amazing! I'm a vegetarian and this is one of the few places that make me want to eat meat so they get an extra star for that!

The tofu sandwich just changed my life

I just had my first Paseo experience. The garlic mayo, the jalapeno, the crumbly tofu, the grilled onions. OMFG. I had no idea eating a sandwich could be this religious an experience. I feel saved. I feel reunited with all that is good in the world. I feel spiced out in a crackhead kind of way. I feel so happy, so happy! It was messy though, get a bunch of napkins. This is no time to think of the trees.

there is one thing wrong with paseo

it's only open 5 days a week. maybe it's because I haven't really experienced caribbean food prior to falling in love with this place, but this is my favorite sandwich spot in the city. just plan on eating to go, and don't be surprised if sandwiches are not an option after oh, like, 7 pm. My favorite is the grilled pork sandwich, but I have not had anything on the menu that I didn't enjoy (the prawn sandwich is another favorite, and the chicken dinner is great as well). also, they have cans of squirt. stay open 7 days a week, guys, and I'll give you your 5th star.

you must eat here

I never thought I would love mayonaise as much as I do there. They are the messiest sandwiches I've eaten, but worth every bite that drips liquid onto your lap and gets in your fingernails. I can smell it blocks away when I walk around and crave it nightly. I suggest calling in or going early, and try everything on the menu.

So far no nazis, just awesome sandwiches

I don't know about any Pork Sandwich Nazi, maybe I've missed that. But the food there is amazing. I dreamt of the onions long after they were gone, and went back the next day for more. Everyone forgot to mention the corn on the cob that just melts in your mouth. I'm going to go back...tonight.

Tim K.

If you're a fan, you know the drill. Zero seating, random wait times and hours, bread shortages, perpetual remodeling that never seems to accomplish anything. However, the food *is* uniformly amazing and worth whatever gauntlet you may have to navigate to get it. It's like the Seattle version of the Soup Nazi, only it's the Pork Sandwich Nazi. If you have never been, make plans to go in the next seven days. Go!!! NOW!!!
