Harvest Vine (Madison Park)

2701 E Madison
Seattle, WA 98112
(206) 320-9771
Website

Harvest Vine has been serving tapas in Madison Valley since before anyone knew how to pronounce it: aged Spanish cheeses, anchovies, seared sea scallops, mushrooms sauteed with leeks and scrambled eggs, a whole pan-fried trout, Spanish ham... You can sit at the counter and have one dish after another slide right at you (though these small plates really are small, so the bill inflates quickly). Chef Joseba Jimenez de Jimenez and his amazing moustache are no longer involved, sadly.

Wonderful

I've eaten out a lot in Seattle but I've never felt compelled to write a review until now. Fantastic food (best lamb I've ever had!) The courses were perfectly timed, with just enough time to mop up the last of one dish's sauce before the next comes out. As far as the staff goes, I think other people are confusing efficiency with brusqueness...they won't linger with you but my friend and I never felt unattended. When I wanted to add a coffee to my dessert order all it took was the tiniest hand gesture across a completely packed dining room and someone was immediately there. No olive oil with the bread? Who cares, it was delicious without. Sitting at the bar and watching the chefs makes you want to order everything on the menu. Hell, the portions even seemed large for tapas. I'll absolutely be back the next time I can afford a nice dinner out.

I dare you to ask for olive oil

I heard good things about this place and we went there for my wife's birthday. It was a Wednesday and they were slammed. This a good thing in my book as long as the waitstaff doesn't have an attitude. We were a couple (just 2 people) and saw that two tables were vacant. Not being one to assume and just plop down at an empty seat, I opted to ask the help if we could sit there and the fella just mumbled the word reservation and walked away. We learned the hard way you have to have a reservation (yes, even on a Wednesday) to get their attention. Otherwise the servers (yes, a second server did it too) look right through you. No host/manager to guide you through either. All I need to be told is that there isn't any availability, not be ignored. Oh ya, I heard through other disappointing reviews that you're likely to start a riot by the staff if you want olive oil with your bread.

Do not go there unless you want to be treated like dirt.

Do not bother to go that restaurant even if the food is ok. The service is so bad that we cannot get any. The called himself manager guy is rude and full of himself. After one hour wait we were there to have a seat, he yelled at us claiming he called us twice where we had been, we were even not so upset and angry despite his attitude but he seemed to be angry and wanted to leave and when we were about the leave he threatened us to call the police and we said you should then, and i cannot beleive but he wanted to prove himself and called the police actually by the time we were outside of the place and police listened the story and left without a word :) You should not keeping the police busy for your customers, I am sure they had more important duties. It was the most absurd evening/restaurant and still laughing at it, but i would never ever go back there.

So cramped our waiter put the wine bottle on the floor

This place has become way too big for its britches. I went for the first time on Sunday and got a great table only to be moved by the hostess. She was all apologetic but, really, could care less. I was not impressed to be moved to a table for 2 when we had a party of 3. Then the waiter showed up more than 45 minutes later. Our table was so crampted he put our wine bottle on the floor and never came back to refill our glasses. We paid $11 for sliced heirloom tomatoes that were unevenly sliced with a pool of olive oil. WE LEFT BEFORE ORDERING DINNER. Everyone else seemed happy in their faux gourmet bad service bliss. Bad service, crampt tables, long waits for service, your wine bottle on the floor; why bother with the "ooh we got tapas aren't we trendy" crowd?

Great Spanish Wine and Cheese

The main cources are excellent but don't forget abotu the amazing Spansih Wind and Cheese selection. A little worried that they're getting too much into "foam" future food but maybe I'm just old. Upstairs is nicer than downstairs

Authentic Spanish Tapas

The most authentic tapa bar in Seattle. The sardines are worth the trip. A little pricey but so is a ticket to spain.

Cost = your meal's weight in gold

There is no disputing that this place easily deserves is reputation as one of Seattle's finest restaurants. The food is amazing indeed. But the bill is even more amazing. I don't object to the small portion sizes - they are tapas after all. But for the same cost you can get a much larger meal elsewhere. Will the food be as amazing? No. But you'll be more full, and less poor. Harvest Vine is worth doing on special occasions, or if someone else is paying. But for most of us it's too spendy to be a regular indulgence. Which is too bad indeed.

Heaven

Oh, I love this place. Always spend too much and eat too much and drink too much. Delectable tapas, unusual Basque wines, exceptional service and great atmosphere. Perfect for an occasion. Agreed, one of the best restaurants in Seattle. It's painful to even think I don't have an occasion coming up for two months...

Probably one of the best restaurants in town.

Expensive? Yes. Weird rules like no butter? Check? Long waits? Yep? Crazy owner? you betcha. Spectacular tapas? Yep. The best on the west coast by a long shot. Go by yourself and sit at the bar and watch the guys make spectacular food. Their eggy dishes are always good. Their sardines are perfect. They do great lamb and venison. The only thing I'm not in love with is the paella.
