On one side, the Mecca is an old-timey counter-and-booth-style diner, for those times when only dependable diner food can hit the spot—and dependable it is. On a bad day, one of their good greasy breakfasts or the hot open-faced turkey sandwich might just save your life. On the other side, there's one of the world's best dive bars—narrow, noisy, well-loved, serving cheap and strong drinks with a no-nonsense attitude. The bar is always dark and timeless and weatherless, like an alcoholic submarine; you can still smell the scent of cigarettes past. All hail the Mecca!

Godawful employees
Food is good, and our waitress was fabulous. What was NOT fabulous was attempting to use their teeny tiny and frankly filthy bathroom, and having the bartender/manager DUDE (in the women's? Really?) pound on the door like a S.W.A.T. officer and demand I 'wake the F@#$ up and get the hell out!' I replied with 'not asleep, and DEFINITELY not drunk, you jerk!' The reply? "I don't care what you think! Quit passing out and get the F@#$ out of my bathroom!' I'd had nary a drop of alcohol, and I do not appreciate being treated like a drunkard when I'm just trying to pee. I like this place, but not sure I will come back if they think that letting their employees treat customers this way is acceptable.

Solid breakfast offerings at a slightly inflated price
The Stranger drew me here with their piece on chicken fried steaks, and Mecca's didn't disappoint me. While not the greatest I've ever had, it certainly hit the spot and is one of the better ones out there. It's a bit pricier than your typical $7-8 breakfast plate but they load the plate and add enough value to make it worth your while. I've had a couple of their other breakfast plates and those aren't bad either. Mecca's breakfast is not spectacular but it hasn't disappointed me. When I'm feeling a chicken fried steak on a Saturday or Sunday morning, it's where I go.

Alcoholic's Dream Bar
Every time I go to the Mecca I can't beleive how hard everyone drinks. The last time I drank there I think my drink had knock out drops put in it. Good Juke box.

As a fellow dive bar owner I always look forward to a visit to the mecca to run into old friends and make new ones. I have known some of the staff for many years and always feel at home no matter how long I have been away

Unpretentious shouldn't equal sad
Something about Mecca makes me irritated and sad. Maybe it was the drunk 40 something woman loudly proclaiming well, something on a Monday evening. It's a greasy hole for the under achiever to crawl into and succumb to lack of their lack of ambition and taste. I suppose if I were more intoxicated I would have excused the vibe or if I was still a smoker I could have found the food more enjoyable for lack of tastebud sensitivity. Just because somethings been around for a while doesn't make it good. Where's the energy Mecca? The Rock and Roll dive theme should extend to your prices if you intend to serve up an experience of such intended low quality.

Only at Mecca
No matter how many times we go there, There's always something new. We've seen a dog on the counter, the cook ran out and the waitress asked us how to cook the fries. We've seen the waitress brushing her hair in the kitchen, uncooked popcorn in the eggs, and a man scrubbing the spilt drink off his crotch 2ft from my face. There is always at least one thing each time, yet we always go back????? and we'll probably go back again, because the food and service is great, but mainly to see what's next.

Ahhh, la Mecca...
Greasy, old, with sharp-tongued waitstaff and fries that are reminiscent of Dick's drive-in fries, just a bit larger.
Awesome place for rowdy drinkin', bad hangovers and a touch of Seattle culture. Stay away if you're expecting amazing service, gourmet food, or if you're a prissy b*tch.
I just wish they would get a pinball machine that's actually in working order!

One less customer
My last visit to the Mecca was my last. All my friends and I wanted was some food and drinks. But all we got was the worst service (thanks in large part due to the lying, dimwitted, neanderthal bartender) I've ever had. Then, when I complained to the manager (I'm not convinced he really was the manager, but he claimed to be), he kicked me and my friends out. At that point the s--- hit the fan, words were exchanged and I may have poured out my beer on the service counter. Anyway, the staffs' response was to follow us out on the street and try to start a fight. Really? Anyway, the place was once great - a true mecca of dive bars and diners, but now your better off going grabbing a Dicks burger and heading to the Streamline. If you do go, I suggest the old dine and dash - they don't deserve your money!

Lame...
I am boycotting this place for life. Last year during bumbershoot they had a big sign that said "$1 Miller Drafts"... So six friends and I order lots of them... when we got the bill they charged us 3.50 each... when we questioned it they said "that's not valid during Bumbershoot"... and they wouldn't budge (they even phoned the manager). Not that 3.50 for a beer would break the bank... it's the principle of the thing. Lame. Oh yeah, and the fries do suck.

Savor it
This is a perfect dive diner. The fish and chips (thick and long like I like 'em) were greasy and plentiful. The ale from the tap was cold and crisp. The waitress was warm, friendly and inobtrusive. The atmosphere was relaxed, urban and unpretentious. I am so glad a place like this still exists in trendy Queen Anne.

And they expect us to pay for parking for a sucky breakfast at lower Queen Anne, ...While surounded by such better places to eat? A dozen on every block.
AVOID MECCA unless you are so drunk, nobody at Mecca will care.

Country Fried Steak and Eggs
Drink a Bloody Mary, get cussed at by the wait staff, eat a country fried steak as big as your head and enjoy the best dive bar/greasy spoon in Seattle. The Mecca truly is just that for the drunk with an appetite.

Hair of the Dog
Going to the Mecca Sunday mornings has recently become as important as church used to be. The "Number 7" breakfast and a bloody mary or two are essential ingredients to recovering from the night before. Can't say they're the best Marys in town (it all depends on who's bartending) but the wait staff has no problem handing out the A1 and worcestershire sauce for that personal touch.

Rode hard and put away wet?
Not the "that presentation is due by Monday and my boss is riding my ass to work all weekend" kind, but the "my new boyfriend is fucking hot and he rode my ass all night" kind. Oh, I love that latter kind.***
Mecca is sooo comfy, with a row of booths along the hall/bar and some bigger booths in the back for me and all my blowsy loud rocker girlfriends. We pop some AC/DC on the juke and order any plate that comes with a pile of Mecca's legendary bacon. This stuff is SO big, and SO tasty-crispy you can almost get away with spelling crispy with a K. All that and it's served up by a tatooed greaser hunk named Jonesy who gives me the hairy eyeball when I order tea. It's a cute hairy eyeball tho', the kind that says, "you should be rode hard for making me put together that stupid tea pot clusterfuck". 'K Jonesy. Just wait a few days while I heal, willya?
